And yet people are not complying with that simple rule.

Went to Walmart yesterday. Counted 4 people who were not wearing masks. The sign says you MUST wear a mask to enter. Is Walmart going to enforce something that isn't a law? That's a can of worms!

Went to our used DVD/BD store. Sign on the door. It's a small place. A couple walked in with their 8 year old son. No masks. The manger came up to them and explained they are only able to accommodate a limited number of people in the store at one time. He asked them to wait outside. They simply left. BTW - it was just me and Alex in the store. I thought he handled that problem very well.

It’s not like you’re hopeless to just taking your Metformin. It can be controlled.

I think there would be too much of a public outcry if that were to happen. But there is a distinct possibility that he would be (further) isolated if he were more candid, so he chooses his words wisely, not so much out of fear of being fired but rather feeling he can do more good for the population if he stays in that loop.

b.t.w., Lee, Bruce, Heavy, since I’m already tied to the market (I guessing about 75% worth), I went heavy with bonds and put the rest of the dough in an annuity. I’m hoping the diversification is correct. My fiduciary feels it is.

I gave you my prognostication using your numbers.

We are between a rock and a hard place. To fight the pandemic people need to S-I-P, social distance themselves and wear masks when around others. Of late I have seen very little compliance. States need revenue. They have to open their economies. The Fed isn't going to cover their budget shortfalls. They have relied on small business to help carry their load - that help is disappearing quickly.

We have two big events here in ABQ: Balloon Fiesta and the State Fair. Both have been cancelled. There are literally thousands of mom and pop businesses that depend on them. They will not survive. Restaurants are designed for max capacity not 50%. Very few will survive.

I remember visiting some family who lived in Monticello, NY (upstate) about 10 years ago. Driving down main street, of the 100 businesses there maybe 10 were still open. Two of them were banks. All the others had For Sale or For Lease signs on them. People didn't want to live there anymore. I also remember visiting Monticello back in 1968 when all businesses on main street were open and thriving.

When businesses begin to close due to lack of sales it becomes a downward spiral. People don't want to shop in areas like that. It's very depressing.

How can we accommodate fighting a pandemic and at the same time supporting our local businesses? I sure don't have the answer.
Gotcha. And me I tried to go beyond the numbers given as of today.

In six months I have less than zero clue. But if I was free to guess ...
Total infected cases since the beginning (global): half billion. But it could be slightly more ...
Total deaths globally: 1.5 million
USA alone (total deaths since the bebinning): 350,000

The economy, Global, not just US ... disastrous but livable. We just have to adapt...much easier for the rich people than the poor. The poor have to make the rich to work for them...that's the new balance sheet.

Hundred years ago during the Spanish Flu pandemic it was the law to wear a mask in San Francisco, or else a big fine and in the cell.

* Good handling indeed in the second-hand BD/DVD store.

Lee, how many of us here (over 65) are still going to be here in two-three years (2022-23)?

I would hope all of us geezers will still be here in your timeframe. I do know that our demographic is much more serious in following guidelines because for us, the number of people that recover from CV-19 isn't that good. Almost all of us have underlying medical issues that come with old age. We just want to see the next sunrise and will make any sacrifice or withstand any inconvenience to do so. We had our "good times."

I am more worried about the 30 to 40 age bracket. They still have their whole lives ahead of them and are willing to take more chances then we are.

Well, diabetes isn’t just something that happens to you. Unhealthy living is the ultimate cause. If I had taken better care of myself 5 years ago, I would have never became a diabetic.

I fully expect to get the virus at some point as it will stick around probably for along the time. Masks (at best) will postpone the inevitable. IMO.

We need more Hollywood boulevards type with shopping stores. More movie businesses, more actors and actresses and filmmakers...it's good for the economy, for the rich and it's good for employment (jobs).

Us who buy Blu-ray movies (4K, 2K, 3D, 2D), BR documentaries, BR TV Series, BR music concerts, Star Wars on 4K, James Bond, Jaws, Alien, Mad Max, Blade Runner, ...us all here from all over the world, who buy in stores and online, us we all contribute to the economy and we all wear a mask in public where it makes good common respectable dignified civilised responsible sense, and we stay the distance from one another keeping a safe 2.2 yards, and we talk not too much, and quietly, softly, gently, without yelling, without protesting aggressively but peacefully, us we play fair game during this pandemic time. We even stay away from methanol.

Some watch more movies, some less, some buy more movies, some less...it depends of Amazon and Best Buy. ...How much, how long and how available.

Some of us se cook more @ home, we eat healthier, we cultivate our own gardens, we depend more on ourselves. We are more responsible, we know more who is right and who is wrong, we listen to only intelligent people and dismiss the rest, the bad advice.
It's like collecting only the good movies.

Healthy food, clean water, pure oxygen (air) and valued movies.
Six feet, masks and proper hygiene.
Peace, respect and prosper.
Equality, fraternity, universal rainbow of colors.

Freedom is not free, it has to be earned.

I sure agree 100% with you Penton.

And we certainly don't need more drama than what we have already right now; masks no masks, bad cops good cops, good books bad books, ...all that jazz.

I'm thinking of the younger ones; the newborns up to 29.
They are the ones who end up living longer with this pandemic fiasco.

That 2-3 year timeframe you mentioned LOTG, that's about how long it will take to develop a vaccine, administer it to the population and get the country back on it's feet all the way. Of course there will be the "we don't need no stinkin' vaccine" people protesting but I believe it can be made mandatory by law.

I want to repeat my experience with the Flu for those members and lurkers who are resistive to wearing a mask or think they can survive getting CV-19.

February 2016. I am not feeling well. I have a temperature and am coughing a lot. I go to the store and buy some O-T-C medicine. 2 days later I am a lot worse. Having trouble breathing. I am wheezing and gasping for breath along with constant coughing. The medicine didn't help. Time to drive myself to the ER.

Park the car in the ER lot and have to walk up this steep but short driveway to get to the ER. After numerous stops to catch my breath I finally make it to where the ambulances drop off their ER patients. There's a wooden picnic table by the doors. I sit down to rest and one of the drivers comes out and sees me and asks me if I am alright. I tell me no - I have to get to the ER. He tells me to wait right there, he will get a wheelchair.

He gets me to the ER, I call my son and tell him I made it . . . then I pass out. I wake up in the intensive/infectious care ward with an Oxygen mask on my face and 4 intravenous tubes stuck to my right hand. I feel like shit but I can now breath. The doctor comes over to me and asks me how I feel. I remove the mask and immediately I can't breathe. So I replace it and give him the OK sign with the flat hand shifting up and down; better but not really good.

I am so weak I can't lift my legs or arms. That was the first 24 hours. Next they start giving me some kind of powder inhaler. Definitely helps with the breathing. 4 days later the doctor wants me to get out of bed and walk around a little. With the help of a nurse, they sit me up in my bed and help me swing myself around to get me ready to stand up. I am saying to myself "come on Lee, you can do this!" They get me standing and my legs are shaking. No way can I stand on my own. I am too weak. Doc says "put him back in bed."

7 days after entering the ER I am no longer on a mask, just the nose clip thingee. I am finally getting out of bed and am able to walk around, with a nurse's assistance (arm around me). 10 days: I am leaving the ER on my own (I lie and tell them my son is picking me up - I will drive home instead). They have ordered me Oxygen for my home. I am to use the nose thingee for another 7 days which I do. I sleep a lot and don't eat much.

At one point in the first 24 hours I was convinced I was going to die.

And when you compare what I went through versus getting CV-19, it's like I had the sniffles.

Yes I get a Flu Shot every October.

Indeed
locally, there’ve been far worse confrontations, e.g. just recently - https://abc7.com/society/woman-gets-...-noho/6275950/

b.t.w., if anyone does have ‘a breathing problem’ I think the easiest thing to do if one is indifferent to the well-being of others is rather than having a yelling tirade, exemplified by excellent inspiration and expiration, would be to carry a doctor’s note (on his letterhead of course) in one’s purse or wallet with your money and simply present it to the manager

I'm a pro at getting pneumonia and I'm not even 50 yet. Having to sleep sitting up because when you lie down your lungs gurgle and you can't breath...not knowing if you'll make it through the night...

Going for chest x-rays and as you're leaving having the tech run up to you and yell for the love of God for me to go to the hospital immediately...

Or the first time walking into the clinic the doctor taking one look at me and saying I have pneumonia...when I asked how he knew, him simply replying he could 'smell it' on me.

Short of getting hit by a bus, pretty sure the one of a handful of ways I'll likely die....but for now...life goes on.
