Yep. Thankfully, my sister made me almost ten masks, so I can just pitch the one I just used into the laundry basket and take the next one off the hook for the next day,

Pondo, I wouldn’t reveal that maintenance practice, or lack thereof, to the COVID Compliance Officer –

Our three biggest cities/towns are going into lockdown and the people who caused it are already complaining, not that they'll give a shit about following the new rules anyway.

Some officials have mentioned that its their fault, but the media seems more concerned about showing students moaning about living with strangers starting a new term or that pubs are closing at 10:30.

I wonder what courses some of they've signed up for when living with strangers on or around campus is a shock to them.

A chilling report about a usa state that heavily suppressed the fact a major outbreak occurred in one county and removed an official that had informed the public about the outbreak.

Feels like we're finally in wave 2 now, not sure why our governor is acting surprised. You relaxed some of the protocols (a lot of which people weren't following to begin with) and you're surprised the numbers got worse. I could've told you that was going to happen.

Medical experts did tell them it was going to happen.

It's surprising because we're all socially distancing and wearing a mask wherever we go. And cases are still going up. I guess none of that is working.

Personally, I don’t think people/patients want to be given false hopes for any serious illness. I’m glad that the NIH panel has set the record straight.

I know that - however I don't actually go out much - so the cumulative number of uses is pretty low.

Question for everyone... does anyone here always wear disposable gloves when they go out and recommend that other people do the same?

I used to last winter but then stopped when it got really hot in the summer. It got quite disgusting where I was sweating so much in gloves and my hands got all pruney. So I just stopped and just sanitized my hands frequently, especially after I touch things. But my parents have been nagging me to do it saying that I should wear gloves every time I go out.

I don't know, it just doesn't make any sense to me and just seems like an unnecessary discomfort. If I touch an infected surface with my gloves and then touch my face, how are the gloves doing me any good?

From that journal:

In a post hoc analysis of nonintubated patients who were younger than 80 years and treated within 72 hours of diagnosis, 7-day mortality for those who received high- versus low-titer plasma was 6.3% and 11.3%, respectively (P = 0.0008) (15).

The Mayo Clinic post hoc subgroup analyses also suggested a benefit of high-titer plasma in patients who received plasma within 3 days of COVID-19 diagnosis (17).

Sounds pretty decent to me, give it early and give it to people under 80. What's the problem?

Despite clearly meeting the “may be effective” criterion for EUA issuance, the analyses of the EAP data are not sufficient to establish the efficacy or safety of convalescent plasma because of the lack of an untreated control group.

Bolded was emphasized by me.

I'll take the "may be effective" criterion being met in a global viral pandemic with no cures at the moment. Maybe that's just me though.

Unless you're going to give people fake placebo plasma in a hospital environment you're not going to have a large enough untreated group. Plus you'd have to blow it out to vaccine sample size numbers (30,000+)

I don't wear gloves for the exact reason you describe - i.e., cross-contamination. And, they are extremely uncomfortable - especially during hot weather. I.e., the gloves may protect your hands from an infected surface, but if you touch an infected surface with gloves and then accidentally touch your face/eyes, you could possibly still infect yourself - if you believe the virus lives on surfaces.

I do use hand sanitizer sometimes, but excessive use can be hard on the hands.

I think wearing a mask is the best way to protect against possibly getting the virus & also unintentionally transmitting this. I don't like wearing this anymore than anyone else, but it seems like it's the smart thing to do these days - mainly when out in public with others.

Wearing gloves is one of the many misleading & contradictory pieces of information we've gotten from the "powers that be" since the virus started. First, they made a big deal about wearing gloves, but were saying you didn't need to wear a mask. Later, they emphasized the need for masks (which I agree with) and downplayed the need for gloves. It just proves how "confused" and clueless they have been - and continue to be - about the virus. Nimrods.

It might be an unnecessary precaution. Just the same, because this is a pandemic, I prefer to err on the side of caution and always wear disposable gloves when I leave the house. (Exception being when I'm out in nature, hiking or some such.) I am careful not to touch my face while I'm wearing them. If I have to touch my face at some point, I do my best using the back of my wrist or arm. (If that doesn't cut it, I'll remove my glove before I do, then replace with a new glove.)

Where possible, I prefer not to use hand sanitizer, as it tends to be rather harsh on the skin, and often has its own toxicity issues, besides. Instead, I carry soap in my car, along with a container of water, or just hand wash inside an establishment, if I need to eat or whatever.

Only time I use them is when filling up. Anything else (and I've done this pre-pandemic as well) I'll use my shirt ie. push elevator button, open door etc. But hard to pump gas that way.

I only wear gloves when handling garbage or cleaning the restrooms at work. Otherwise I just wash/sanitize my hands multiple times an hour.
