S Korea has done a good job, especially with regard to testing and when compared to the terrible bungled mess around testing in the US. The Chinese actions have also been largely successful at blunting their outbreak, and bought us 2 months ( although the resistance to acknowledging the problem early on, common to autocracies, was a problem). However, as noted above the bumbling federal response in the US wasted that time Similar to in China, in fact. Both countries had leadership unwilling to recognize publicly the scale of the problem early on.

I've thought about that too, but it's really not a good reason to hold off. A rag doused in isopropyl alcohol, wipe, and it's all good. If I can do that with my food items (i.e., the packages and containers they come in), I can certainly do it with a movie.

If anything, I want more releases to watch while I spend my time at home. So far I still got a job so I won't spend any less. I'm more worried about theaters going out of business. Could potentially mean even more bias towards digital media.

I’m officially out of work indefinitely with no pay, so no more Blu-ray purchases for me, also indefinitely. I still have an order shipped though, one waiting to be shipped, and one still on pre-order.

That’s my worry too, that theatres will go the way of blockbuster video for example.

Crumbs. What a wasted opportunity. 27-discs $330? It doesn't make sense to not include them. I'm glad I'm not a fanboy, or my heart would be totally broken. I think the original three are excellent escapist entertainment, but that's it. I'd like to own them, but only in their original cuts. Unfortunately, it seems as if that's never going to happen.

Because of the financial meltdown and the fact that Russia and the Saudi's have decided to get into a p*ssing contest....
I probably won't have a job soon. And my retirement savings have basically now vanished. So I'll probably be giving out blowies on the street corner to get by soon. So my purchases have come to a screeching halt. That said, super excited for my Doctor Who - Sylvester McCoy series to show up next week. I might now have any food, but I have enough wine stockpiled for several months, and I ain't talking about the boxed crap either. |

You know the thing is - I dont think he's overreacting at all. The whole point of taking such extreme measures like shutting down all restaurants and bars and theaters and forfeiting entire seasons of soccer, baseball and basketball is to shut this thing down stone cold DEAD. If we do this thing by half measures and baby steps, we'll be stuck in this germ hell for the rest of the year, easy. Many more people will die that way.
Without a doubt, it sucks - but it's best to pull the bandaid off all at once. Also, closing the schools vs leaving them open is a lose-lose proposition. Yes, it is a great hardship that people are not getting one more meal a day. That suddenly finding childcare over a weekend is next to impossible. That there will be a cascade effect throughout the community, regardless if you have kids or not. But what's the alternative? Leave them open. And what happens when there is an outbreak? People would lose their ****ing minds. And I chose my words with purpose: not if, when. So what do you do? So yes, extreme measures for someone in a high risk of contamination job like a mailman or a busdriver or a pizza delivery dude are not really a bad idea. |

I have April Fool's Day and Escape from LA pre-ordered, and am very much looking forward to Star Wars in a few weeks. I also have a few things coming in the mail. I've spent more recently, as movies are going to keep me busy, but luckily I can do this as my income is not really being affected. My thoughts go out to those who might lose their job or are out of work
