Yeah, I think it's counterproductive in every instance. It's worth noting that there are studies demonstrating a correlation between anxiety and a weakened immune system. That's why I'm pretty intense regarding my feelings on this doctor's (or any doctor) language. An argument can be made that such statements are literally dangerous to a person's health, especially if the person reading it suffers from an anxiety disorder.
I deal with anxiety, but thankfully have never needed medication for it, though there's no shame in anyone going that route. Personally speaking, I've found that I deal far better with frank, dryly stated facts, no matter how dire they may be, rather than alarming adjective led statements. Someone should tell this to the homeless. I've been accosted by street people begging for money every day this week. Gonna have to buy a welder's shield to wear in public so I won't get spit on, accidentally or otherwise.

Anyone who doesn't take this COVID-19 seriously is a piece of garbage. These people need to pay attention to the news. People are getting seriously ill & dying from this, and they're not all older people/people with compromised immune systems.
Plus, these a-holes partying are just spreading the virus. I saw a news clips of these pricks in Miami Beach upset that their Spring Break plans are affected. People are getting seriously ill & dying of this virus and you're upset that this puts a crimp in your having a good time? F$%@$%# morons. https://www.yahoo.com/news/aint-seri...074801407.html Agreed. I live in an area where I have to put with this all the time, and with the virus I especially don't want to deal with these people. Last edited by AnamorphicWidescreen; 03-18-2020 at 09:04 PM. |

Universal is releasing The Invisible Man, The Hunt, and Emma to VOD now, which is smart because those films would have just ended up vanishing (sorry) midstream in their prime time.

Yeah, they're charging $20 for a 48 hour rental. Will be a tough sell for many, who will be content to wait a few months for it to be much cheaper. I would gladly pay the $20 if I knew that most of it was going to the theaters. Is there any info on this? The last thing I want is to have my local theater shut down permanently. If they advertise in a way that frames it as a way to support your local theater, then it would go over much better and get a lot more sales.

I am just by myself, so paying that much was a bridge too far. I did consider that if they offered the blu-ray with it, then I would probably do it. If they offered something to where you could link your local theater to the purchase and give the theater the same kickback as though you went through their box office, then I would be just as likely to do it that way, even though the usual studio/exhibitor split isn't that great for the theater owners. Maybe, as you are alluding to, if the studios gave an even bigger chunk than usual to the theaters (which I don't see happening), then there would be more incentive for people to help out their local businesses that way. I am not sure how they are going about it. The odds are that it's all going to the studio, but if I see differently, I'll post back here. But the outcry against the herd immunity idea (that Britain proposed) is one of "Not my child!" Well, then we can ALL die next winter instead as thing comes back much worse and stronger as the worst possible versions of it propagate out of control rather than try to stop it from reaching that point by stopping that version from developing by stopping it now before summer is over. Otherwise, what's left of the world economy will destroy us anyway. Frankly, I'd rather take my chances with the virus than have my life savings, etc. WIPED OUT do the F-ING STUPIDITY of the world leaders bringing everything to a halt when it WON'T work because as soon as you lift restrictions, it will start spreading again. The DOW has already lost nearly half its entire value and it will only go lower until it bottoms out again because what they're doing is NOT GOING TO WORK! Sorry, but people are going to die no matter how they handle this and the only question is HOW MANY. They should be taking advantage of the age-factor that shows people under 20 are not getting sick overall and people between 20-40 have a very small percentage. It's the people over 80 that are most vulnerable. They should be the ones isolated (from grandkids, etc.), but the rest need to get immunity before it's too late (next fall will be too late). I already know the world is too stupid to listen toe the scientists on this (I don't mean doctors because they're only worried about themselves and the hospitals getting overloaded, not what might stop this on a global scale). But what I'm suggesting wouldn't overload the hospitals since very few of those age groups would actually get sick based on the current statistics. They would gain immunity and it would be less likely to mutate again as there are less to spread it. |

Italy reports 475 new coronavirus deaths, the highest one-day toll of any country
Incidentally, the U.S. infection curve is looking to be even more severe than Italy's. |
