Default Release Date Announced

Hey,

Released Date Announced for the movie. APRIL 16TH 2010

Quote:
Matthew Vaughn’s big screen adaptation of Mark Millar’s Kick-Ass will hit theaters on April 16th 2010, scheduled up against Piranha 3-D and MacGruber, and a week after the Sylvain White adaptation of the DC/Vertigo Comics series The Losers. As many of you know, the film was independently funded because none of the studios wanted to tackle the story which fused ultra-violence with children (the be more specific, a 10 year-old who chops bad guys in half and spews vulgar obscenities). The film was bought by Lionsgate after sneak preview footage rocked San Diego Comic-Con International 2009, topping most top ten lists for the Con. We raved about the footage in a previous video blog. After the film sold, I speculated that the movie would take the Mid-March Zack Snyder 300/Watchmen slot, and I wasn’t too far off.

Kick-Ass tells the story of (beware of possible comic book spoilers) [spoilers]“Dave Lizewski, a kid growing up in a rundown suburb of Americ. He isn’t a gamer, he isn’t a jock, he isn’t a mathlete, he’s just a regular kid. When he is not hanging out at the local comic store with his friends Todd and Marty, he is fantasising about his school teacher and Katie Deauxma, the class hottie. The only thing that is unusual about Dave is that about a year ago his Mother died. But somehow through this blend of normality, teenage angst and irritation at being continually mugged, Dave makes the decision to become a superhero’ KICK ASS! Dave’s first foray into being a Superhero results in him being stabbed and run over. When Dave recovers he realises he can’t walk away from being a hero, and when he successfully steps in on a mugging he brings himself to the attention of the US media and Frank D’Amico could this be the guy who knicked his coke? As Dave gets sucked into the dark world of vigilante crime fighting he gains a sidekick named ‘Red Mist’.”[/spoiler]

Enjoy.

Default Mark Miller Promises Kick-Ass 2.

Hey,

Mark Miller promises Kick ass 2 set up.

Quote:
We already know that Mark Millar has plans for a sequel to Kick-Ass because he’s told us when he thinks it will go before cameras but we don’t, officially at least, know much about what it will entail. Now, though, he’s promised that a teaser for the sequel is going to play out at the end of the first film. What’s more, he’s revealed that the same teaser is going to pay off the first run of the comic series, suggesting that the books and movie are going to follow a very similar path throughout. Until now, that wasn’t entirely clear as the film remains unseen and the comics story is still mid-run.

Talking to MTV, Millar promises “It didn’t cost that much money to make. There will definitely be another one.” That’s all good, but the question now, I suppose, is whether Lionsgate’s deal on the first film will give them any option on a sequel or if Disney, seeing as Kick-Ass comes from Marvel, will get to reap the rewards.

I know full well how Kick-Ass ends, having read the screenplay. I would promise to e-mail those of you who ask nicely some spoilers but the last time I did that with Sherlock Holmes I ended up accidentally deleting about half of the request e-mails I received and looked like a jackass to their owners. An old script review I wrote for Comic Book Resources sort of sidesteps the issue too… So, I guess I’m just telling you that you’ll have to wait and find out for yourself.

What I will say is that this suggested sequel changes the rules somewhat. Kick-Ass, Defendor, Super and Special all seem to fit in the same box whereas the Kick-Ass 2 Millar seems to be hinting at will be playing a different game altogether. Probably for the best.

Sometimes these sequel teasing endings backfire, I feel. Countless times I’ve heard people complaining on their way out of the auditorium, “And that ending… that’s just so they can have a sequel.” And that doesn’t necessarily happen less with better loved films either. They are, of course, particularly embarrassing when no sequel comes along.

Could 2011 be the year of the Millar sequels, with Wanted 2 joining the Kick-Ass follow up on silver screens worldwide? Doesn’t seem impossible.

I am already hungry for Another before the first comes out.

What do you think Guys?

Enjoy.

The books are great. I'm hoping the movie lives up somewhat.

Looking forward to this

New Kick Ass poster and Clip featuring BIG DADDY

Source:Slashfilm

Quote:
Lionsgate has released a new character poster for Matthew Vaughn’s big screen adaptation of Kick-Ass, revealing our first real look at Nicolas Cage in costume as Big Daddy. I wonder how mainstream audiences will respond to Big Daddy, especially cince the character’s design is a kinda a knock off of Batman. I noticed that they tried to keep the costumed Big Daddy out of the first movie trailer, likely for this reason. Also embedded after the jump is a hilarious red band clip featuring Big Daddy (sans costume) trying to teach his daughter, Hit Girl, what it feels like to get shot with a gun.

Official Plot Synopsis:

A twisted, funny, high-octane adventure, director Matthew Vaughn brings KICK-ASS to the big screen. KICK-ASS tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name — Kick-Ass — assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers. His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes – including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloë Moretz) and her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) – and forges a friendship with another fledgling superhero, Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). But thanks to the scheming of a local mob boss Frank D’Amico (Mark Strong), that new alliance will be put to the test.

Kick-Ass hits theaters on April 16th 2010.

It is the Banana Splits song, done Punk Rock style by "The Dickies". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flMS2gHFOH0

I love the comic series, and, thus far, it looks like they're doing it EXACTLY like Millar's book, which is to say violent, vulgar, and decidedly un-PC!! I can't wait
