Comic Con Footage Leaked!!

Hurry - they may take it down soon. NOW REMOVED

Update July 24

So most of the blogs I read say that Kick-Ass stole the show on Thursday (and Avatar was presenting that day too)

Here's some news that came out. Looks like it'll be released for early 2010:

Comic-Con: 'Kick-Ass' Expected To Hit Theaters In Early 2010, Says Director

Quote:
Earlier today I posted a breakdown of the footage from the "Kick-Ass" panel and the first look it provided at the father-daughter vigilantes played by Nicolas Cage and Chloe Moretz. While the footage certainly looked great, there's still some question about when we'll actually be able to see "Kick-Ass" in theaters.

Director Matthew Vaughn had some interesting news on that aspect of the project, too.

During the Q&A portion of the panel that followed the video, the director said he expects "Kick-Ass" to hit theaters in the 1st quarter of 2010. According to Vaughn, the film is 90-percent completed, with the music providing the only lingering issue.

"Everything that we put in it makes it dated right away," explained Vaughn.

When "Kick-Ass" does finally make it to theaters, however, comic book writer Mark Millar teased that we could be seeing more of its cast down the road.

"I always had the idea of it being a trilogy," said Millar.
You can check out a video blog of the presentation given at Comicon here:

Quote:
Yesterday, 24 minutes of James Cameron’s Avatar screened in Hall H (which, yes, was very good), but it seems like everyone left the convention center talking about something else entirely — Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation of Mark Millar’s Kick-Ass. At the very VERY end of the night (at nearly 3am — if we look tired, it’s for good reason), I recorded a video blog with Devindra Hardawar and Adam Quigley, sharing our thoughts about the footage screened at the panel. Quigley, who isn’t one to be hyperbolic, said that this film has the potential to be a geek classic, and I agree. Watch the video blog embedded after the jump for our full thoughts.
Original Post:

Nicolas Cage, Aaron Johnson and Lyndsy Fonseca are set to star in Kick-Ass, Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of the violent Mark Millar comic book, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Written by Millar and drawn by John Romita Jr., the Marvel Comics' Icon imprint book centers on a high school dweeb named Dave Lizewski who decides to become a superhero even though he has no athletic ability or coordination. Things change when he eventually runs into real bad guys with real weapons.

Johnson plays title character, while Fonseca plays the object of the teen's infatuation who believes Dave is gay. Cage is a former cop who wants to bring down a druglord and has trained his daughter (Chloe Moretz) to be a lethal weapon.

Christopher Mintz-Plasse is also in the cast.

18-year-old British actor Aaron Johnson has been cast as the title character, Dave Lizewski, a 15-year-old boy named Dave Lizewski who attempts to become a real-life superhero. The catch is that he has no powers or any of the stereotypical reasons for choosing to fight crime.

21-year-old Lyndsy Fonseca will play high school hottie and Dave’s crush Katie Deauxma, who thinks he is gay.

Nicolas Cage has been cast as a former cop named Big Daddy who is also trying to bring down a druglord and has trained his daughter to be “a lethal weapon” .

Chloe Moretz is Hit Girl, the ferocious, potty-mouthed 11-year-old daughter of Big Daddy (Cage). She is described as a “four foot killing machine” with “a ninja sword”.

Christopher Mintz-Plasse (McLovin from Superbad) is in talks to play the Red Mist, an angry teenage son of a mobster who is out to uncover Kick-Ass’ true identity.

Thanks for the post... honestly I'm kinda shocked that this is already in the works after only 3 issues!!! I'm guessing they're basing this on the success of Wanted.

Nevertheless, this book is friggin awesome. Has a LOT of promise.

We were just sent over two new photos from Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass, the upcoming comic book adaptation that we've been talking about for a while. We've been waiting and waiting to finally get a real photo of Dave Lizewski in his homemade costume - and here it is! For those who thinks this looks a bit cheesy, that is exactly the point. Dave is just a kid who wonders why more people don't dress up in crazy costumes and become heroes on their own - so he does it himself. The first photo looks like it's from the scene where he first goes out and gets his ass kicked encountering some thugs on the street. The reason why he ends up getting famous is because people record the fight and put it on YouTube. Take a look!

I've got to admit, these look much better than I was expecting. It looks like Vaughn is really going to pull it off - and as a huge fan of the comic book series, I can't even begin to tell you how exciting that is.

Kick-Ass is both written and directed by British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, of Layer Cake and Stardust previously. The screenplay was co-written by Vaughn and his writing partner Jane Goldman, of Stardust as well. The story is an adaptation of Mark Millar's comic of the same name that is currently in the middle of its first series. Kick-Ass was funded entirely by Matthew Vaughn on his own and doesn't yet have a distributor. However, we can expect Kick-Ass to eventually show up in theaters sometime in 2009.

This comic is amazing! Not so sure how audiences will accept the hard core violence. Millar is now working on the sequel (before the first one has even come out)

Quote:
We haven't heard, or seen, much from Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass recently, the big screen adaptation of Mark Millar's comic series. Vaughn is currently in post-production finishing up editing and I think he isn't planning to even sell it to a studio until it's completely 100% finished. Late last year we got our first look at some photos from Kick-Ass, which looked great, but besides those, we haven't seen a trailer or any footage or any posters or much at all. Which is why it's odd that they're already talking about a sequel. Or so Mark Millar mentions in a recent interview with SciFi Wire. He even thinks it could be a bigger hit than Wanted.

"Wanted made a fortune. It made a ton of money, and it was a property nobody had ever heard of. And I think Kick-Ass is going to be even bigger," Millar says. I'd like to say the same, but because it doesn't have a distributor and hasn't had any real marketing yet, it's hard to tell. On the topic of a sequel, Millar says it's already in the works. "Kick-Ass 2 is already being plotted out. We're planning it, because all the actors are quite young and we have to make it relatively quickly. So we'll definitely do that inside the next 18 to 24 months." That's a fast turn around, but it makes sense, especially if they're expecting this to be a big hit.

If anything, this just makes me much more excited to eventually see Kick-Ass. I'm a big fan of the comic, despite only being 6 issues in and taking 6 months for every new issue, but it's one of those comics that I'm always excited to read. Right before Wanted came out, we heard talk of a sequel, and look how that movie turned out (it completely blew away my low expectations). Maybe Mark Millar has a good sense of how well a movie will do right off the bat. Or maybe he wants to spend more time in the Kick-Ass universe. Whatever the case, Matthew Vaughn better hurry up and finish this soon, because I'm get antsy waiting for a trailer!
I can't wait for the trailer either!!

New pic is out of Chloe. I thought Cloe killed with swords and knives. I remember her training with guns, but I don't remember her using them. Guess I need to crack the books again and check them out.

Anyway, the first footage is going to be screened at ComiCon at the end of the month. Not sure if it'll hit the net after that other than the usual pirated version.

Issue 7 is scheduled for July 22. I think it's going to be an ongoing (they are not stopping with 8)

Hmm. Never read the comics, but this looks interesting. Perhaps the trailers can get me to go to this in theaters.

I just read that they're incorporating animation sequences in the movie. I'll see if I can find the details.

Yeah, me too - been hearing about this movie for a long while now - ready to see something in action.

Looks like it could be a hidden gem (since almost no one seems to have heard of this).
