I finally found a way to scan the calibration reports for my Kuro.
Actually the before calibration measurements were not too bad according to Jeff. I purchased the excellent ControlCal and I used D-Nice's settings prior to having the display professionally calibrated. Turbe and D-Nice provide a terrific service to home theater enthusiasts. However, if you want to get pro monitor results, a professional calibration is required. I assume the primary reason for this is every display device is a little different requiring specific tweaks. IMO, Jeff Meier from AccuCal is one of the very best ISF/THX certified engineers in the business. As I mentioned before, Jeff also calibrated my audio system. Unfortunately there are no reports. Rather, he provided a page with specific numbers to reprogram my Pre if needed. The audio calibration also made a huge improvement in my system. Prior to Jeff’s handy work, I used Audyessy to calibrate my audio components. Unfortunately, this left my speakers sounding very bright. The result of Jeff’s audio calibration left my speakers sounding fuller. In other words, it seemed as if the sound was floating slightly above the speakers before the calibration and now the sound is much more balanced. I can finally hear what my speakers are supposed to sound like. I am a big fan of Audyssey and I’ll continue to practice to determine what I am doing wrong. P.S. Sorry for the small attachements. These are the close to largest file size that I am allowed to upload. Last edited by coolmilo; 07-18-2009 at 02:38 PM. |

Penton,
I have the lovely "Oasis: Lord Don't Slow Me Down" Blu-Ray Disc which is encoded w the infamous 50hz video that won't play on US PS3's. I know it's been asked before, but could we ever see this 50hz supported in a US PS3 firmware upgrade? Many of us have TV's or projectors that support both video forms. Apparently the reason for not including a feature is lack of demand, but perhaps you could use your contacts to let them know there are users who NEED this feature to fully use their PS3. Seeing as my primary purchases are import concerts blu-rays, I'd love to watch them on my 100" projection screen with the PS3 rather than with my computer and monitor at the opposite end of the house. -James |

If they were smart, they'd of course build a hybrid player without additional cost as a gesture of support for those that bought into a previous format, but, naturally, they won't... Will be interesting to see what, if anything, distinguishes this player from others, save for the brand name on the front. |

In general, I think the personal video tweaks consumers do prior to Jeff making a visit gets their video more in the optimal ballpark so Jeff doesn’t have to fiddle as much with that, except for going into the service menu of some display devices, which many people are incapable of doing....and probably rightly so, because if they don't know exactly what they're doing, they can do more harm than good. ![]() |

Be respectful of thee lady! When I return from da Con, I shall delve into some of the underwater filmmaking nuances that were not mentioned/included in the supplemental material on the Blu-ray disc of The Deep. Meanwhile, my goal this week (although I will not stand in any lines) is to get a pic of myself with Leslie, Michelle and Jen solely in order to give Esox (with one “s”) a cardiac stress test, free of charge………… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pHPkpJmG2g P.S. For those interested, I posted some musings this morning on the audio codec survey thread as well as the subtitle positioning poll thread. |

Sorry if old news here, but....
I read in my local paper a couple days ago that Lowry was restoring all the Apollo 11 moon landing and moon walk video. They are forced to use copies that CBS and an Australian news agency had because NASA ERASED THE ORIGINALS BY MISTAKE and had no BACKUP COPIES. ![]() What the heck?????? ![]() Last edited by SquidPuppet; 07-21-2009 at 08:18 PM. |

I would be really surprised if there was a more shocking error. I would be interested to hear the competition though. |

Nasa has had many problems with their old material - there simply isn't budget to keep it up - as a matter of fact the players that could use the footage were all scrapped ages ago.
This does a nice job of summarizing some of the highlights of the perilous life of records in a live by the fiscal year organization: http://forums.somethingawful.com/sho...readid=3168568 I found the summary to be useful and it has a couple nice links - life at NASA seems to have really been harsh on archiving but I suppose they had plenty of problems paying for their active missions let alone trying to save the past (as important as it was). For those interested in more details on the Apollo footage http://www.computerworld.com/s/artic...2&pageNumber=1 And hello PM - I just wanted to come on over and see how the thread was doing its been ages - life in Q just doesn't seem the same now ![]() My second try at a post here for some reason my first didn't seem to make it. Penton, Sony gets 100% of the royalties from disc sales right? Would there be any online sources giving info about this, or at least validating that sony is the sole originator of the IP for the discs? I know that it is probably common knowledge but Ive tried to google it and havent found jack squat. Thanks
