That's what I meant, the best OLED HDR TVs (Panasonic) are not available in the US. All the other TVs yes, OLED and non-OLED.

And not all HDR TVs perform the same. Some HDR implementation is pathetic @ best.
And then we have the problems with the movie studios and the Blu-ray association and HDR streaming content. HDR, and its derivatives has no solid foundation, from the manufacturers, hardware, and software too; there are no standards that are observed by all. Some are better than others and it's up to us to find out. That's why we have this thread, to inform and educate us on all things HDR, and that comprises a vast territory, including all HDR TVs, no matter their technology used.

Penton is the man in this thread, and his approach is very flexible; with good humor, friendly communication, open mind. It is a relaxing thread, very. I understand his approach, 200%
He's a good balancer.

Feel free to ask anything you’d like as this thread obviously spans a broad range of interests . HDR and occasional just plain social friendly conversation. Be patient, some kind heart may eventually chime in with a few tidbits. Ray, you’re a current or former Samsung TV owner are you not?

Meanwhile, I’m going to go back and read some of the previous posts I missed while device free in Vancouver to see if I can contribute anything in that regard.

That head-in-hands meme that's popular (I've used it many times) is of Patrick Stewart from The Next Generation; regardless, without getting into the arguments detailed in that link you posted, I really was just looking for basic adjustment suggestions for parameters like color space, local dimming, backlighting, etc. (we can go into HDR later).

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...n#post15308612

Regarding the 4th paragraph of the anecdotal occurrence presented in that ^ opinion piece from the President’s desk, I have it on good authority that these -> https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post13608677 doctors whose eyes are/were critical to their profession (not to mention, their patients’ health) did not feel any need to consult with fellow colleagues regarding serious eye strain and such and thusly did not take time off from their day jobs based on other doctor’s orders to confine themselves “to a dark room for 24 hours” and…..subsequently, have not suffered any ocular morbidities whatsoever as the result of some 20 or 30+ years of viewing films on high nit light boxes for 8 hr./day…..or more. They’d of been living every other day of their lives in total darkness.

Perhaps diagnostic radiologists are supermen and superwomen?....or some ASC Presidents should become better informed before using a singular anecdotal case in order to try to critique something. I think a lot of the tone expressed in that opinion piece is actually frustration related to the politics of the industry (watch 2nd vimeo clip -> https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post14920991) rather than based upon real science of HDR and the human visual system.

chapeau today to Geraint Thomas who did that ^ (eat, race, win) superbly for 22 days. Good to see a longtime hard working, loyal domestique win Le Tour. gkolb, he also goes by ‘g’ for short.

Also, although I know of no behind the scenes shows in HDR like Eat.Race.Win specifically devoted to endurance mountain biking as of yet, tip of the hat to Geoff K for winning this year’s BCBR….https://bike.shimano.com/en-US/infor...xtr-m9100.html

The plane is the best, half hour. The ferry is for car slaves.
Best to just rent a car across, in Sidney.

There's a nude beach by the university in Vancouver, that's where filmmakers and crews like to hang around.

They told me of ‘Wreck Beach’ but given the precarious hiking needed to get down the cliffs to the beach, we deferred and just went on to the Granville Island market to buy fresh fruit and stuffa our faces.

And for the geeks among us, don’t forget more towards downtown the establishments/organizations like SPI - https://www.imageworks.com/contact-us (within walking distance of Simon’s Bike Shop who I think carry the best selection of Vancouver/Canada jerseys one can find ) and also Vancouver being the home of the non-profit VPA - http://www.vancouverpostalliance.com/

What resolution and color space for HDR? (suppose they’re working with film sources), Any idea if/ or how this will be made available for purchase or viewing?

Looks like there will be a new HDR king announced on Tuesday in New York. I bet certain people on the forum have been antsy with some type of nda

Will be great to see if Sony's lcd can live up to the claims/hype. VE shootout should be the best ever this year.

4000 nits
1500 zones
Improved viewing angles
X1U
glossy panel
Also supposedly switched to Quantum Dots
