I was surprised as hell to read about the upcoming release of ANGST. I had given up on ever seeing a nice U.S. release after Barrel called it quits & I read that the director had changed the beginning of the film for the German (?) dvd release.

It's going to be awesome to see this film on blu-ray!

DK, I am answering all of your questions here in case anyone else needs the information. (You can reach me again at the old email ).

1. Yes, this is the only English-friendly release of Stay As You Are that I have seen. No need to look for international releases.

2. I am missing only four of Alberto Lattuada's films, the rest I have in my library. I believe two of them have not been released on DVD -- at least I have never seen them -- and two are very old releases (Il bandito is a reissue via Cristaldi). Unfortunately, the majority of these releases will not work for you as they are not English-friendly.

3. I am posting a picture of the ones that you can consider below (all are English-friendly).

The Cricket -- Fantastic film with beautiful Virna Lisi, Barbara De Rossi, and Renato Salvatori. Unfortunately, much like Stay As You Are, the transfer comes from a very old master, possibly one that was used for a VHS release. You might have trouble finding this release, however, because I believe it is OOP now.

Mafioso - It comes via Criterion. It is one of the best looking releases on the market.

The Sin/Bianco Rosso e... -- good presentation. The Italian DVD release is good for you as well as it comes with optional English subtitles. Also, Sony's on-demand program has the same film on DVD-R under White Sister in the U.S., but I have not seen it:

http://www.amazon.com/White-Sister-S...n%3A2650304011

Come Have Coffee With Us -- fantastic release from Raro Video. In fact, I am surprised this film did not end up with Criterion. It could have been a great addition to the collection and a wonderful companion piece to Mafioso as it reveals an entirely different side of Lattuada. Definitely consider adding a copy to your collection

Love in the City - this film is out on Blu-ray via Raro, but I prefer the old Minerva Italian release. It is a collection of shorts.

The Overcoat -- one of Lattuada's best films. Very smart dissection of post-war Italy and the class system. The old R2 Italian release even has an English-friendly booklet.

Without Pitty -- I just ordered the new DVD from Network in the UK because they canceled the Blu-ray release. It should be good as the old R1 release is quite poor.

So, all English-friendly Lattuada films are below. These you can consider. Everything else that I have not mentioned is available only on DVD in Italy/France and these releases are not good for you (there are no subtitles).

I hope all is well

Pro-B

Angst Blu-ray PRE-ORDER

Quote:
Cult EpicsIndependent U.S. distributors Cult Epics will release on Blu-ray Gerald Kargl's Angst a.k.a. Schizophrenia (1983). The film will be release uncut and uncensored for the first time ever.

Synopsis: Angst, photographed by legendary Oscar-winning Polish animator/experimentalist Zbig Rybczynski and scored by Krautrock synth god Klaus Schulze (Tangerine Dream), is one hell of a gorgeously stylized and shockingly visceral experience: a forgotten classic on the fringes of the slasher cycle. Erwin Leder (Das Boot, Schindler's List) plays a maniacal killer based on the real-life serial murderer Werner Kniesek. As he stalks through the bland Viennese countryside, Schulze's music pulses darkly, and Zbig's innovative first-person camerawork grabs you by the throat, never letting go. Angst is one film that, without any empty hyperbole, we can guarantee you'll never, ever forget.

Cult Epics presents for the first time since its original release, the Uncut, Uncensored (optically restored tunnel murder-scene) in HD, with painstaking bonus features; including a new Interview with Erwin Leder, and Audio Commentary and an Interview with director Gerald Kargl conducted by Jorg Buttgereit (Nekromantik) and an Introduction by Gasper Noé (director of Irreversible, Enter The Void, Love), who cited Angst as an influence, one that I have watched more than 40 times.

Special Features:

New High-definition Transfer
Optional playback with or without Prologue
New DTS HD MA 5.1 Surround
Introduction by Gaspar Noé (2015)
Featurette: Erwin Leder in Fear (2015)
Interview with Gerald Kargl by Jorg Buttgeriet (2003)
Interview with cinematographer Zbigniew Rybzcynski (2004)
Audio Commentary by Gerald Kargl conducted by film critic Marcus Stiglegger
New HD Trailer
40 Page booklet includes Interviews with Gerald Kargl, Erwin Leder, Silvia Rabenreither
Illustrated with rare photos and Werner Kniesek original Kurier articles
Collectible Blu-ray Slipcase and Sleeve

The Voyeur Blu-ray

Quote:
Independent U.S. distributors Cult Epics will release on Blu-ray director Tinto Brass' film The Voyeur a.k.a. L'uomo che Guarda (1994), starring Katarina Vasilissa, Francesco Casale, and Cristina Garavaglia. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on September 8.

Synopsis: The Voyeur, based on the famous erotic novel Luomo che Guarda by Alberto Moravia, tells the story of Eduardo Dodo, who in public is a professor of French literature but in private a desperately lovesick cuckold, married to the ever-more-elusive Sylvia. His life is shattered when he becomes an onlooker rather than a participant in life. Those around him, though, seem to be living life to the fullest. His bedridden father has a scantily clad nurse, his students have unending sexual fun, sometimes in his presence, and even the public beach has become and orgy ground. Through a series of small revelations, Dodo slowly comes to realize who his rival is, the discovery, rather than destroying his marriage, strengthens and renews it.

Erotic filmmaker Tinto Brass is here at the height of his powers, crafting an unforgettable fable of sexual desire. The music by Riz Ortolani is seductive, the set designs are sumptuous, and the photography is as stunning as Hitchcock's, and the lead performers, Franceso Casale and Katarina Vasillissa (a Polish photomodel), are eye-catching.

The upcoming Blu-ray release will include a new high-definition transfer of the uncut version of the film, with the original Italian language track and a newly mixed English language track.

Special Features:

Interview with the Director (2007)
Photo Video Gallery
HD Trailers

I picked up 4 Cult Epic releases over the past couple of weeks. Angst, Der Todesking, Nekromantik 1 & 2. The only ones I haven't seen before are Angst & Der Todesking. I hope CE release Schramm one day.

I fully expected "Schramm" to be announced not long after the release of "Der Todesking". I'm going to have to pick by "N1/2" & "D.T." soon, I sold the dvd's to a friend.

I watched "Angst" a few nights ago & it's awesome. Will check out the version with prolouge next. I started with G.Noe's intro. I think the French version is what I have previously seen.

The announcement of the Buttgereit acquisitions confirmed they do have Schramm, it's only a matter of time before it's release. Can't wait, personally!

Was trying to play my copy of IN A GLASS CAGE recently and it stopped 3/4 of the way through. Looked at the back and it's gone bad like those Criterion discs a while back. It's the 'bronzing' disc rot thing.

Emailed Nico. We'll see what's going on and if he's heard of other discs going bad...

Did anyone in Canada get their order of Angst filled? I had mine pre-ordered since August but haven't received anything yet, and now Amazon shows it as "Not In Stock".

Also, can anyone confirm if it was released with a slip cover?

First pressing has the slip shrink-wrapped to it.

I just checked my copy. Physically, it looks new. I haven't tried to play it, but as it exhibits no bronzing, it should be fine.
