While I'm partial to Blade Runner 2049, I do agree if you want to illustrate the difference Dolby Cinema provides, give them a ticket to Black Panther. It really is the total package, from the A/V presentation to the seating, encased in a pitch black cocoon.

After seeing Hostiles at a (sub)standard AMC presentation earlier this year, I just may limit my movie experiences to 70MM, Dolby Cinema and Alamo Sony 4K.

Everything else is an inferior experience in comparison to home media, and given how quickly titles are released, it's not much of a wait.

AMC, Dolby Cinema 2K Theatres. 70mm is raw native film it's not 4K

Your home theatre UHDTV 4K HDR is more highly.

Memories, CTR tube 32" inches is crap. Cinema Theatres is better. Now UHD 4K and bigger T.V 50 inches on your home. No more Cinema Theatre...

Apologies for the confusion. When I cited 4K, I meant 4K specific to the Sony Digital Cinema 4K projection systems installed at the Alamo Drafthouse chain, not to Dolby Cinema or 70MM.

What is exactly the point of your comparison?

Is real life 3D a conversion? Is it dark? Does it give many people a headache? Is it 1080p SDR with limited color space?

It's OK, let the 3D fans enjoy their format. It's not gonna be around much longer at home anyway.

IMAX theaters seem to never have decent low-end bass, probably because there's no dedicated LFE.
well whatever it is I don't like it ~ I saw 'Batman vs Superman' in Dolby Cinema it looked great, but the constant seat movement was f***in' annoying, saw it again in IMAX-laser and without that aspect and thought it was a superior 'experience'. Not so that one thinks I'm bashing Dolby Cinema two recent screenings I saw that were flat out excellent in the format were 'Titanic' and 'Murder on the Orient Express' and those didn't implement the base effect.

Just got back from seeing this. Wow. Wow. Now THIS is a superhero film that pushes the genre forward. I don't think Marvel have ever reached the levels of quality this film has reached before now. In terms of enjoyment it may not be the best MCU film, but in terms of actual quality it's up there. This is one of the few superhero films where everything; acting, directing, cinematography, costume, editing, set design, visual effects, writing etc. all comes together perfectly with everything working perfectly. It feels "complete" in a way most other MCU films don't (and I'm a huge fan of the franchise). This might just be the best overall film in Phase 3 so far and one of the best overall films in the MCU. It's going to be very hard for Infinity War to live up to this. And this is going to be one GORGEOUS UHD.

Phase 3 so far for me:

1. Black Panther

2. Thor: Ragnarok

3. Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2

4. Captain America: Civil War

5. Doctor Strange

6. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Exactly. There is NOTHING about the current 3D implementation that matches reality. Wake me up when the technology is actually worth paying attention to.

Sure, I see genuine depth with my eyes without requiring silly 3D glasses. Nevertheless, 3D TV technology is gimmicky trash, and I'm glad it's dying. It feels good!

5. Doctor Strange

6. Spider-Man: Homecoming
I haven't seen Black Panther though my wife (huge Marvel fan) did see all the others in the theater, even if she did pass out during Doctor Strange from all the close-ups of Doctor Strange's hands after surgery.

I'd have a different list. For me it would be:
1. Spider-Man
2. Doctor Strange
3. Thor
4. Captain America
5. Guardians of the Galaxy

Aside from Guardians of the Galaxy, which I thought was merely good, the rest are varying degrees of excellent. Any differences among my top four are just quibbles.

Black Panther seems to have broken the Marvel formula but it's quite amazing that even with a dozen+ superhero movies that are variations of a formula that Phase 3 looks to have the highest overall quality of them all.

I'm glad you liked the movie.

Have you seen some of the best 3D has to offer? Polar Express, for example, is still a wonder to behold in 3D, by today’s standards. I don’t see it ever being eclipsed until they start filming movies in VR or something

Yes, I own it.

Not impressed with it when compared to the best that UHD has to offer.

To me the only worse MCU movie overall than Black Panther is The Incredible Hulk.

Sloppy script, poorly shot action and fight scenes, terrible third act with really, really awful CGI fight between Black Panther and Killmonger. By the way, he's another bad Maevel villain. He has good backstory and motivationbut they clearly didn't know what to do with him so he's generic bad giy who wants to rule the world.

Letitia Wright (Shuri), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Lupita Nyong'o (Nakia) and Winston Duke (M'Baku) stole the movie from everyone else.

How can you have a good backstory and motivations and be a bad villain?

This was a 10/10 for me and a top 3 MCU.

That 5/15 release date mentioned a few pages back is way too soon for Disney. That's a Fox window.

Backstory and motivation defines WHO HE IS, but WHAT HE DOES makes him a bad villain.

Until you get to that awful CGI in the finale.

Black Panther had a lot to like, but it's the visuals in the end that fail it. Thor Ragnarok kills it as far as being the MCU's best looking film.

Phase 3 for me

Black Panther
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2
Captain America: Civil War
Doctor Strange
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Thor Ragnarok

Other than Ragnarok (which was just passable) they all are either good or very good IMO.

The MCU has become too large to really rank completely, but my phase 1 and 2 favorites are Iron Man and Guardians Vol 1 and I'd put this below them, but perhaps above The Avengers and The First Avenger (my next favorites, need to think about that for a bit though).

Phase Three rankings for me:

1. Civil War
2. Ragnarok
3. Black Panther
4. Homecoming
5. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
6. Doctor Strange

But all fantastic films in their own right.
