Does switching to just Dolby TrueHD 7.1 make a difference? Or does all audio options have this issue?

It's $24.99 on walmart.com now already. I went ahead and just ordered it because somebody already went to their WM and it had no 4K releases (and only the BD only WM exclusive version), so I doubt mine will since they usually only have 2 or 3 4K releases on release day... Waiting 2 days isn't ideal but Target and Best Buy are 20+ minutes away and I don't want to deal with that lol

Disney really needs to fix their Atmos game imo. Coco, Cars 3, Guardians of The Galaxy, and Thor: Ragnarok all had issues at home, and at my local theatre. we don’t have AMC Dolby theatres so I can’t comment, maybe it sounds better in these proper premium auditoriums, but we have Ultra AVX (Canada).

What I absolutely don't understand is why would anyone buy the WM exclusive blu-ray when that is the only thing it comes with? Standard BD version at least comes with digital copy. And for $2-5 more, you can get the 4K that also comes with 4K digital redemption by either purchasing from Walmart.com or price matching it at other retailers. The only reason I'd ever consider the WM exclusive is if it comes with substantial amount of bonus features on the BD disc that is exclusive to WM only. If Walmart thinks that they're going to sell many of these, they are failing to understand what exclusive means. I guess the only exclusive is that the cover doesn't have that annoying Movies Anywhere advertisement on the bottom right corner, this showing full image artwork. I can see these being on sale for $9.96 on Black Friday since Walmart will probably have more than 50% inventory leftover by November. |

When I saw this film in theaters there were quite a few shots that I had trouble with. There were nighttime scenes where I really had trouble making out what was going on, it just looked very gray. On the 4K UHD on my OLED, The black levels were very inky. So the scenes were even darker than in the cinema BUT I found it much easier to make out what was going. Instead of looking like a mushy gray mess, I could make out the silhouettes of people and objects amongst the darkness.
There’s still some dodgy CGI and VFX in the film, but many shots in the film really do look better and I think that is because the HDR adds a much more convincing sense of atmosphere to those green screen backgrounds. The lighting just seems more consistent with the various elements. Having only seen the film in SDR theatrically, seeing the disc really makes me think HDR saved the visuals in this film. The cinematography and special effects are much easier to appreciate thanks to it. And the film overall was even better the second time. I still love the DC films that Nolan and Snyder made most in the genre as a whole, but I do think this is Top 5 MCU if not Top 3. Killmonger is one of the most well written and acted villains in the franchise and it’s the rare superhero movie that gave me things to think about that were relevant to our world today. The production design, costumes and musical score are all really nice too. I think I still like Fruitvale and Creed more than this film, but I’m looking forward to whatever Coogler has planned for the sequels. As far as the disc goes, the video has great detail and color. While I do think HDR made the film better, I don’t think the HDR nor the audio track blew me away. They were serviceable but I don’t quite think they’re demo material. |

Disney did put the IMAX scenes in 16x9 ratio on the 3d version of the GOTG2. Don't know why they chose not to for the HD and UHD blu-ray.

Yes and 2 other sections with more 4K copies. This has to be the biggest 4K release to date. I estimated at least 70-80 4K copies alone at my Target. Even The Last Jedi didn’t come close to this. Make sure you price match Walmart at $24.99.

My Best Buy Steelnook came in early yesterday. I also just got a pair of my first Klipsch’s ever (R-15m’s) and I was so disappointed with the audio from Black Panther. The ships never rumbled, there were very few LFE impacts. What a waste.

Yeah the HDR10 version on disc is less impressive than the streaming Dolby Vision version, color and brightness-wise. I rarely have that issue with HDR10 but I suppose it's time for me to get a Dolby Vision Blu-ray player.
The audio is so much more crisp on disc, though. Not super dynamic but it's not Thor bad, not that bad at all. Mediocre LFE but that's Disney for ya. |
