No, because the tracks aren't simply quieter, they're dynamically compressed (less volume range between quiet sounds and loud sounds, regardless of the overall volume you play them at).

Somehow, somewhere back in time , Amazon became a price follower when it came to movies. And I dropped them like a hot potato for purchases.
Amazon is trying to bend their suppliers to their will, much like Walmart was doing 20, 15, and 10 years ago. That was documented in the Wall St Journal and other business reporters at the time.

I prefer not to support these mega-retailers for expensive media purchases when I can get exclusive day one releases from Best Buy who is trying hard to “add value” with steelbooks and deep catalog in-store 4K displays. (At least in our local store). I rarely purchase movies from Amazon, as a $99 Prime membership doesn’t add value for me.

If anything, it’s my opinion that Amazon and Netflix are directly related to the decline of movie availability in Walmart and Target. This is why I like to buy from Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, imports when necessary, and decent sales from Warner Archive, Kino, Criterion and too good to pass up e-tailer sales.

IMHO Amazon isn’t our friend, Amazon wants to own us.
:end paranoia/ rant:

To be fair, Best Buy would love to own us as well; they're just not doing as good a job of it at present.

BBY is a much smaller scale outfit than Amazon.
At least they usually let me see, touch, feel and smell the products.
Maybe even watch an in-person demo! Get to know the store manager and electronics dept manager. Share questions and experiences.

It doesn’t feel like a one-sided experience afterwards.

Not for lack of trying or some benevolent philosophy.

Disney and Amazon are so big they can do whatever they want. Neither will cave, because they don't need to.

You kind of had me until you said Barnes and Noble.

Barnes and noble is as far from your friend as possibly. Their prices are laughably offensive and anyone who shops from them or movies outside of the Criterion Sale or 40% off sales either doesn't have to worry about money or just a sadly uninformed consumer.

I will always be loyal to Amazon as well as the occasional Best Buy exclusive I love such as the upcoming Black Panther steelbook.

Smelling blu rays before I buy them is also my kink.

I noticed that the MCU intro was much louder at the beginning. Once the movie was playing the MCU intro sounded thin. I hope Black Panther won't play the same way, I like HUGE tracks like what I heard in Blade Runner Final cut and 2049, and also in Dunkirk

I'm really sad that the MCU now belongs to them.
Spider-Man Homecoming and Incredible Hulk are the only 4K UHD with amazing audio and those are not Disney Releases but Disney needs to step up the game if they want to be in the same level as Sony and Universal in terms of reference quality.

You can count on it sounding limited just like the last few releases.

Despite any potential problems with the audio, does anyone not think this will take over the #1 spot for 4k collections on this site? The current #1 is Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (at least for US releases of 4k movies) and I'm willing to bet Black Panther beats it.

Black Panther certainly has a lot more buzz about it than any movie of the past few years. I only wish it was being released before the next Avengers movie.

Does anyone know if any of the sound mixers working on these anemic Disney releases have ever commented on this criticism?
Much like some DPs (like Steve Yedlin) have been confronted on Twitter over raised black levels of Star Wars etc and have given their comment on it it would have been interesting to know what any audio mixers thinks about these controversial Disney releases.

The US #1 spot is quite possible I think as it's my impression Black Panther was quite the phenomenon in the US?
Worldwide I think it's a bit of a different story. It didn't recieve nearly the same buzz in the part of Europe where I live. Other movies like Star Wars The Last Jedi and Guardians 2 were much bigger over here and so are likely to become bigger sellers on home media as well.
I think partly that's because those are more established brandnames (particularly Star Wars is huuuge here) while Black Panther is a superhero I think most people outside the US have never really heard about and also its additional boost in the US caused by having black cast and crew doesn't have the same cultural impact here and as a result doesn't cause the same attention and buzz really.

I skipped this in theaters and haven't made up my mind yet whether to get the 4K or the standard blu. The 4K disc is tempting though.

Regardless of the buzz due to their names, the Black Panther is a way better movie than The Last Jedi and Guardians 2 IMO. Regardless of the casting and cultural significance, the movie still had to deliver, and it did, in a big way.
