No the UHD will have black bars top and bottom, no version will fill a 16:9 screen but it’s likely the 3D release will feature a VAR.

Is it being released in 3D in the US? I pre-ordered it from Amazon UK.

Ignore it, just another example of an inaccurate product description using irrelevant terminology.

Good to know that. I wouldn't want to purchase a copy with cropped edges!

Review from highdefdigest:

https://ultrahd.highdefdigest.com/56...ahdbluray.html

Apparently, perfect video with Dolby Vision but the Atmos mix does suffer a bit from a lack of a more impactful low end (and I seems the regular blu-ray’s DTS-HD MA track is slightly worse).

Nah, they don't do 3D in the US anymore.

Forgot how good-looking this movie is (especially by MCU standards) til seeing those screencaps. Bad news about the audio but I didn't expect an improvement, hopefully they'll come through for Infinity War (but somehow I doubt that). Can't wait

Review from AVSForums:

Same deal, reference-quality video but the dynamics on the audio seem to be compressed, but at least here the reviewer says that near the end the audio becomes more impactful.

I agree. I’ve seen it 3 times so far and I always find the cinematography, and especially the colors, very beautiful and pleasing to the eye. Can’t wait to watch it in Dolby Vision.

Technically Black Panther takes place before Ragnarok, not that it matters due to their respective stories.

Looks like Disney just told him that reviews are embargoed until May 11, so his full review will be back up then. However, this snippet is already starting to make the rounds:

Early in the film during the sequence with the guerillas in the jungle, the machine gunfire as well as the variety of point to point physical contact between the Black Panther and the bad guys have little impact. The same is true during the altercation in the casino in Korea. During that encounter Klaue blasts T’Challa with his Vibranuim blaster and that as well as T’Challa’s landing afterward sound compressed. The extended chase that follows in the streets directly after has moments where things hit harder but, there isn’t substantial depth. Oddly, the soundtrack’s Hip Hop rhythms thump with palpable precision throughout.

However, later, during the large-scale battle in Wakanda, tactility and dynamics improve. This continues throughout the remainder of the presentation. Lastly, I found that I had to play this track back at roughly 10db above where I normally listen. YMMV.
Seems to me this is the fault of the film's sound mixers and editors, if in-movie effects lack punch but the hip hop beats are strong. That actually correlates to my experience watching it in a Dolby Cinema. I just don't see this mix being the result of someone at Disney saying, "Let's dial down the bass and dynamics across the board so we don't scare anybody's pets."

IOW, direct your fire at Marvel's sound people, not Disney's disc producers. (Although I feel reasonably confident the low master volume thing is a new studio policy, in which case: turn it up.)

An embargo on a disc review would be a first for me. That said, I never even received details about the disc release, it just showed up on my door last Friday. I guess if they email me then I'll pull it down until Friday...

Bill Hunt's review is still up, as are several others I'm sure. It's a pretty strange situation.

When they say enhanced for 16:9 it means the video is 16:9
All Blu-ray and 4K movies are 16:9 technically, because the black bars are part of the image. This is because with the HD standard, it was expected that all TVs would be 16:9, unlike with DVD where people were transitioning between 4:3 and 16:9 so they made “anamorphic” video that would fit the width of whatever display it was on.

Nope, there have been people in multiple threads of this film, Marvel Films and Unpopular Opinions Thread (R.I.P.) talking about how boring and bad they found the film. I wasn’t one of them, but this isn’t a rare opinion you have.
