What a waste of Andy Serkis my God.

The only good thing was Chadwick Boseman. And he was better in Avengers.

Hopefully part 2 will be better.
I'm with you on some things. I have the movie but haven't watched it yet. But saw it in the theater and yup, the CGI was BAD. But not all of it. The Lexus LS coupe shot was AWFUL, really awful. My son and I left like it could have been better. Overhyped, yup.

I agree with Rock. I have an LG OLED and it was so dark, it was one of the first things I noticed. I had to bump up the brightness.

AGREED

That whole car chase scene was trash.

Do you have a DV player? Reports I've seen is this movie looks better in DV than HDR 10

I picked up the UHD from Best buy last night. I tried to get it from Walmart, but they were sold out completely or didn't have any to begin with. After back-tracking to Best Buy, they had tons of the movie in all of its forms and formats.

The Wife and I watched it last night, and we enjoyed it. My Two year old especially loved the Rhinos.

Love the actual film though!
Don't get me wrong, picture was razor sharp and very detailed, but the black crush made things look like I had brightness set on 45 rather than 50. Check out the ambush scene in the jungle toward the beginning of the movie. I know a jungle at night is supposed to be dark, but I can also tell the difference between a naturally dark scene and a badly crushed scene.
I played that same scene on regular bluray, and lo and behold, now I could clearly tell the guerrilla uniforms and face details.

We should try to reach out to a home video contact at Disney. It shouldn't be too difficult to convince them to hand audio like every other major studio.

I didn't feel there was much to like about Black Panther. The 7.1 surround was not impressive even when volume compensated. Image didn't wow for the most part. Special effects didn't look good to me. Content of film itself was a little dry and preachy.

Sounds like a setup issue. I remember that scene being dark in the theater and I was VERY happy with how great it looked at home. Shadow detail and blacks in that sequence look fantastic in my setup. Most tone mapping solutions I've seen are very dark on the bottom end, and don't do well with scenes like this. It could just be a function of how your display is calibrated on the bottom end.

lol I really liked this movie except for thinking Boseman was a little too reserved and basically got outshone by everyone else. CGI was mostly crap though, no argument there.

That should be the case with most other DV titles I own but it is not. I even tried Dolby Vision vivid mode out of curiosity but even in vivid mode image was badly crushed.
The standard bluray looked dark but not crushed, with more details during dark scenes.

That was the EXACT scene that made me say the same thing.

Terrible

Nothing wrong with his setup. Mine is tuned and I thought the same thing.

Outshone? Sorry I disagree. Everyone else's acting was awful

You thought Killmonger was better? Klaue? It was over the top stupid. Killmonger sounded like a THUG. King material my @ss.

I honestly expected better for a Marvel movie. They need to look to Winter Soldier for a proper comic book movie adaptation, IMO

About the audio...it doesn't help that sites like this give the audio a good score (4/5) while saying crap like if you turn it up it's fine. AVS said the same stuff and it's false. It's not a good track, end of story.

It's definitely necessary to turn it up for dialog to more or less match a typical release. The 7.1 surround experience doesn't measure up to, say, BR2049. We shouldn't settle for whatever it is that Disney is doing. I shouldn't even have to touch my typical volume setting much less settle for 4 surround speakers and LFE which aren't delivering as they should.

Anyone else ever run into a problem where it says the digital code is already redeemed? Never happened to me before.

We have to realize that we're in the vast vast minority that really care. We really need to get out of the BR.com bubble and look at it from a business standpoint. I'm 100% certain that Disney has gotten more complaints about the dynamic range of their movies than they ever will about the lack of it.

Most people who buy these are listening on TV speakers.

What's that got to do with the audio ? It's personal taste, some will like the movie some won't.

Didn't say it wasn't necessary. Obviously you have no choice to turn it up. What I'm saying is that turning up the volume won't magically give you good dynamics and a good track.

I didn't have that problem. The night scene at the beginning was dark, but I could make out faces and other details with no problems. I have a LG UH7700 and LJ UP970. I keep the backlight a little lower than recommended, but the scene looked good to my eyes.

Most people who are buying 4K discs, in 2018, are not listening on TV speakers. I just don't buy that.

I'm well aware I'm in the minority of how people consume movies but Disney should just get out of the game if they can't release audio tracks that do their films and their history on the disc format justice.
