I think he's making far FAR too many assumptions based on heresay. For one thing, people keep claiming it started back with the Age of Ultron and yet Guardians of the Galaxy 2 came out WAY AFTER that point and its soundtrack was fracking AWESOME. Ragnarok was very poor sounding, but the Last Jedi was was only somewhat poor sounding (I'd say about 50% better than Ragnarock was anyway). There are other examples as well in-between where some Disney releases are considerably better sounding than others (and I don't just mean Atmos). That's a lot of inconsistency for a supposed situation where Disney is doing this "on purpose to make it sound good on crappy systems." Sorry, I don't buy it. There's something else going on and I'd bet it involves one or two people out of about 200 working on sound there.

The key to finding out what the problem is would be to have a fairly well known journalist INTERVIEW someone from Skywalker sound (e.g. Josh Lowden would be my first choice). I'm certain they know the reason because Josh was in charge of MOST of these soundtracks both good and bad. Just sending emails to Disney is pointless unless you can get them in the hundreds of thousands or millions. But contact the right key people and we could get some answers.

Disney is now doing it rather than just talking about it.
Oh bullcrap. I"m tired of seeing post after post of unproven assertions. Show some proof for the dozens of assertions you keep making as if you KNOW why it's happening instead of just guessing. Home theater speakers are better quality on the low end than ever. Even some of the sound bars are capable of reproducing at least two channel halfway well. You don't have to own an earthshaking system to produce at least good results with a decent soundtrack. I don't recall anyone crying about Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 being too damn loud or earthshaking when it was a monster of a soundtrack at home and it came about well after several of the movies people claimed were neutered.

One size does not fit all and something that is gentle for a sound bar will sound horrible on a good, capable theater system that can handle the punishment of a greater dynamic range.

They're going for the lowest common denominator... the Joe Blow who complains about having to ride the volume knob while listening through the TV's tin cans. The trouble with that is Joe Blow has no idea what 7.1 or even Dolby Atmos is, and premium tracks get ruined as a result.
A weak soundtrack will sound bad whether on a soundbar or 7.1 system.
Take the average soundbar for example, and play Black Panther on it for a few minutes, then switch to something like Dunkirk or Blade Runner, and you be the judge

I watch these Disney movies with younger kids and they appreciate the softer sound. Whenever we watch non Disney movies they get scared by the sudden loud noise.

Guardians 2 sounds AWESOME? That's news to me. It may not be AS neutered as Age of Ultron but there's still something missing, as with every other Disney disc (be it Star Wars or Marvel) I've heard since then.

Disney are taking the piss by putting an Atmos and DD+ track on the same bloody disc though, there's no reason why the DD+ couldn't be the "kiddie friendly" mix (might as well dub out any swears while they're at it, "For gosh sakes watch your language!") with the Atmos as the balls-out version with the proper dynamic range.

Not many of us have a luxury to have dedicated spaces to watch movies. I think it's a stretch to say less dynamic range is "for kids" and speaks to the arrogance and entitlement of this community. Quite frankly, It can be pretty freaking annoying for audio to nearly inaudible and then have deafening action in the next scene.

So because of scared younger kids actual cinephiles and collectors - the ones who shell out the money and actually care about quality - have to make do with inferior sound mixes?

No, they can just opt for a different genre of movie

Ok I’ll bite. What other genre? A massive blockbuster shouldn’t have decent dynamic range? Isn’t that kind of the point with an action/adventure/superhero flick? LOL. What a bozo.

Genres that do not involve an enchanted castle or a round-ears mouse involved

Disney is THE genre now. Everything else is just a sub-genre of it.

Why would Disney change anything? The movies are popular enough to sell no matter what and the review sites aren't being critical.
