OK - watched this last night. PQ was excellent, no complaints there at all. Colorful, detailed, punchy and the blacks were pretty much dead on the entire film. But....

The sound was definitely weak and while the surround usage was good and the dialog was clear - there is NO doubt that the sound mix on this disc has no oomph at all. The shootout scenes, car chase, fighting, etc all felt as if I was listening to it through thick curtains or something. Turning up the volume didnt really help that much either. It made it "louder" but didnt make it sound better or more dynamic.

So, here is my presentation score:

PQ = 5/5
AQ = 2/5 << thats almost being generous.

It wasn't all that strong in the theater. At least in the one I saw it in, but other movies have been plenty dynamic, in the same room.

Ugh. Between one member posting chapters from War and Peace about an audio track he has yet to experience in his own home, and other members dooming and glooming about an audio track that anyone has yet to experience in their own homes, this thread has worn me out.

I still have my Carver AL-III ribbon speakers and an active crossover from Audio-x-Stream for them. The pre-amp is a Carver C-5 Sonic Holography. I have a Carver TFM-35x amp on the bottom and a Class A/AB amp from Yamaha on top for the ribbons. That amp is almost 40 years old now. It still works like new. I did have to buy a replacement 10" woofer for the speakers recently after a voice coil froze (hey it's 22 years old). I have an extra ribbon if one goes bad, but no woofers. Someone was selling a pair on US Audio Mart. They just came in yesterday. It should be back to normal later today if I get some time. There's not much else like them. Bob just released a new model like two years ago. They're 7 feet tall ribbons. These I have are four foot ribbons plus a sub cabinet for 6 feet altogether in height.

Meanwhile, the fact people make fun of Yamaha (nothing wrong with their amps) should tell you something about the type of people around here. I'm driving high efficiency PSB monitors crossed to a powered 15"sub in the home theater room. The receiver's output (110 watts per channel) is plenty for that task. Twice the power is only 3 more lousy decibels. But you'd never guess that from the comments on here....

The secret to getting BP to sound good is to get one or two of these -

Some of the top audiophiles are using Yamaha pre/pros and receivers in their high-end home theater sound systems. You are part of that elite.

It's important to understand the meaning of words in audio/video forums of the world wide web.

You are a generous person; 3D picture quality wise, and 3D immersive audio quality wise.
You remind me of a professional 4K BR movie reviewer. ...High respect.

Cheers,

You spelled that wrong LOTR. It's spelled Audiophool. Most don't know the function of an amplifier for some odd reason.

For weeks all of them said I was wrong - that there was no stutter. I was defeated. I gave up arguing. But then somebody finally came in the thread who had the hardware to do the measuring, and posted proof in numbers - there was a stutter every 42 seconds. It was a timing issue with the chip, and was fixable in firmware. Some companies fixed the bug, and some didn't. Guess who was right all along? I was. Everyone else in the thread was wrong. Just because they didn't see it didn't mean it wasn't there. I later discovered that this was already known and discussed in another thread for a different player with the same chip. But the thread I was in was full of people who insisted I was wrong.

So I'm just saying - sometimes it is the lone guy that is right.
He's not

Most of you are probably too young to know what poor movie sound really is. Boycotting a movie over sound tells me the movie must not have much value to it period other than CGI visual effects. Go watch a REAL movie like The Treasure of the Sierra Madre some time.

I'm fully equipped; HTITB Sanyo Hi end sound surround sensory system...with integrated amplification for all channels.

Black Panther is a polished colorful Halloween costume Marvel macho 4K movie with lame audio. Comic book stuff for the kids dreaming of tomorrow's superheroes. I'm all cool with that, it is needed in our social evolution.

What I liked the most was the African music theme score. That, fits my chords. It elevated the full overall feel; I should buy the album, if the other tunes aren't Rap tunes.

I'm in my 20s and Atmouse sucks. It's not an age thing. Or at least, it's not ALL of us. Please don't go around thinking you'd have perfect audio tracks if it wasn't for us meddling kids.

I took a quick glance, lot of good classics, good stuff.

As for me, don't have everything listed down in my collection, but pretty much enjoy everything form silent b&w to modern action spectacles.

Its not even an audiophile thing. I used to work in that industry and was semi into the hobby. Had some MacIntosh/Adcom gear, Magnepan or B&W speakers, Thorens turntable, Denon CD players, Nakamichi tape decks, all that stuff. Nice for 2-channel, critical listening.

But this is home theater. A different beast, IMO. Accuracy or *whatever* audiophile mumbo-jumo is being thrown around here just doesnt have that much weight. People expect deep, dynamic sound with good surround use and some boom & sizzle(an old audiophile term ). Some of these sound tracks simply dont do enough of that. Its that simple. My opinion on the subject.

As for Black Panther? I watched the film again tonight and did like it better overall this time. Its still somehat formulaic and doesnt breakopen any new ideas. But its executed well for the most part. I turned UP the volume about 8-10 clicks more than my usual and this did help. But, its still not a powerful audio track and could certainly be better. No argument there. Feels like something is still lacking sound-wise and it snot simply a "turn up the volume" thing either.

It's sad that this thread has become focused on solely the audio quality of this release. This demonstrates just how badly Disney has borked the audio tracks of its releases. Very sad. Maybe we should all tweet about this to Bob Iger en masse.
