2.2 looks too washed out although it is able to reveal more details in dark scenes. |

It is known that LG Oleds tend to crush in order to render perfect blacks. Like someone else already stated, calibration can help to an extent but when you compare that to a calibrated 4K HDR LED TV you will easily be able to tell how much more crush is present on Oled |

But you have to know someone that calibrates televisions. Not to mention the fact that they don't come cheap.

Rocky, you're talking with speculated assumptions. There's a reason why year after year the OLEDs have won the annual TV shootouts, even including the 2016 models. Regardless, those sets were sets that were ALL calibrated to the ISF standards, so they were all on level playing fields. ISF calibration will do wonders to improve the image. The problem is, the vast majority of the TV owners, even including this forum, don't have a properly calibrated set, whether that's by a licensed professional or with their own equipment.
Near black is an issue especially with 2016 and earlier OLEDs. However, with a reputable ISF calibrator or the proper measurement equipment, those issues can become almost nil. Before I got my set calibrated, I employed a lot of the "fixes" that an individual could do, but it didn't completely alleviate the problem without causing other issues. There was an immediate appreciable difference in levels of detail across the board after I got my set calibrated, that definitely includes near black. Yes, OLEDs have had a harder time with the transition from 0 luminance to near black out of the box, but again a calibrator can do wonders. Woodley's suggestion of getting your set calibrated is by far the best advice any of us can give you. |

I just did a search on tv calibrations near me and found out Best Buy's Geek Squad can do it. But, DAMN, it's cost more than one month's rent to do it. I don't see how you all do it. I now have some newfound respect for you guys and mad props to your home theatre setups. Seriously!

A professional, ISF (Imaging Science Foundation)-certified Geek Squad Agent will use precision equipment to calibrate your TV, tweaking sharpness, black levels, white levels, brightness, color temperature and more to provide the best possible picture in your home.* The Agent will also create custom presets to complement different room ambiences. This service takes about 2 hours to complete. |

![]() That's true. However, I wasn't expecting it to cost more than a month's rent. Of course, I only looked at Best Buy. Though I'm only looking more out of curiosity's sake at this moment. Quote:
Don't get me wrong. I really like my tv and I feel it does an amazing job with the 4K and UHD movies that I throw at it. However, I am paying more for it than it is really worth. which is my fault (for various reasons too lengthy to get into). Also, while I was on the hunt for a 65" tv, I now feel I could've gone bigger and been happier. A lot of things were going on as I was in the process of getting my tv though and that really hampered things a bit. But don't think I am complaining. I really love my tv and it is a great source of comfort to me that I wouldn't trade for anything. The grass just always seems greener on the other side. ![]() ![]() |

I wouldn’t bother then. You like your panel now so just enjoy it. Calibration will send you down a rabbit hole and it takes a lot of trial and error. It’s a terrible idea if you even have the slightest OCD tendencies like I have.

Yeah, it's expensive. But so is everything. The equipment you bought that you were considering getting calibrated was expensive too; far more expensive than what most people spend on TVs. |
