For those not qualified for access to reading the event presentations which are now online, Andy Q. (5 down -> https://tech.ebu.ch/events/hdr2016;j...D8F04FA8C4C244 ) revealed an HDR-tv tidbit which will become relevant shortly in the days to come.

I have not seen it mentioned before, but someone just pointed out to me that when YouTube eventually supports HDR, it will be HLG in VP9 Profile 2. See this video at the 31 minute mark: https://youtu.be/HukWdsRayqQ?t=31m4s

recently jumped into 4k with a samsung js8500. does it automatically recognize HDR when available, such as with Netflix and Amazon, or do I have to "turn it on" in the menu? There's an option to turn on HDMI UHD Color for specific HDMI inputs but looks like that's just for using it as a PC monitor.
http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sam...s8500/settings This says, "if you want to benefit from the wider color gamut of this TV, set 'Color Space' to 'Native'." would that be it? |

Set to Native color for wide color gamut mapping support on 4k material. If you plug in a UHD Blu-ray player or external 4k streaming box, also set the HDMI port to HDMI UHD Color. That's what that mode is for and the Js8500 goes into a 10 bit processing setting, which will cause a reboot. Last edited by FilmFreakosaurus; 07-01-2016 at 12:41 AM. |

Didn't want to start a new thread for this, but I have a Samsung KS9500 and I got the firmware update (1112) that allows HDR+ yesterday.
I gotta tell ya, from what I can tell it works really well. I'm hoping for more clarity on how exactly this works soon, but for now I am very happy with the result. |

SCRG is back!…. https://www.shootonline.com/spw/hpa-...scrg-reignites
although *the date has been changed to Aug. 3* because some people actually go out of town for a long 4th of July holiday weekend to unwind. As to the 3rd bullet point (HDR Remaster without the creative talent….), dvdmike, even if you can ……should you do it? ![]() *https://www.eventbrite.com/e/scrg-ev...ts-26087115264 |

Hi guys quick question for you.
Recently got my Samsung uhd 4K player yesterday. I have a Panasonic tx 50cx802b which has HDR. I'm super impressed with the HDR but had a question regarding gamma. When HDR comes on the backlight contrast gets maxed which I'm fine with but gamma is 2.2. Should I set it to 2.4 or bt.1886? |

Does anybody know why the Netflix 4k titles doesn't show the HDR logo if my tv supposedly had the firmware update to support HDR? |

2015 samsung tvs haven't been updated for netflix hdr yet. Supposedly a tizen app is still being developed. You can use the Shield device for netflix hdr until then. |

Ive seen alot of people say they like it quite a bit. There's a good explanation for how it works with the recent reviews of the ks9500 on avforums.com and hdtvtest.com |

Thanks, I would get the Shield but I'm going to hold out for the release of the Xbox One S. I just finally upgraded my Netflix to the 4k plan after getting this tv about a year ago. Would any other apps like the you tube app or some other app show something in HDR? I'd just like to watch a quick clip or something so I can test it before I get my player.

HD Guru interviewed Roland Vlaicu of Dolby about DV support on UBD: http://hdguru.com/dolby-vision-ultra...-mediatek-soc/
I guess we're waiting for those Dolby chips. |

this is from Marco Polo. The blowout in sky is corrected and the trees now have a deeper, more realistic green to it. also more detail in the tree bark. nice example here of very good HDR grading (dolby vision)

I must be an idiot also, as I can't see the difference either.
Going by those pics, I have decided that I don't need a 12 bit screen. 10 bit will do quite nicely thank you. ![]() I am an old prick with failing eyesight but, really. |
