Yes, covered in the panel discussion in the brightcove link in this post….

For 'so far' information which was not publicly revealed in panel to NAB attendees, see paragraph 2….

Ray, you’re one of those happy HDR users, are you not ?, e.g. who actually like what they see? (despite some in the calibrator corps on twitter, etc. who shall remain nameless, essentially raining on your parade by indicating that you shouldn’t enjoy it). At the moment, I can’t recall where you’re from, but if you’re in SoCal like PeterTHX or other locals reading, this is a friendly free HDR event reminder as it’s coming up next week….https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hdr-sem...aff=erellivmlt

For additional up-to-date background on the Presenter which I see isn’t included in his bio (hyperlinked), Dado was commissioned to work as the color scientist for Marco Polo Season 2 and developed a pipeline for the DP, Vanja Cernjul (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...a#post12096078

P.S.
To anyone who knows what the hell I’m talking about (Prem managers), have I been looking at too much video imagery this morning or is Vanja a doppelganger for Jürgen Klopp?

BILLY LYNN'S LONG HALFTIME WALK - Teaser Trailer (HD) - YouTube

Filmed with the sony cinaalta F65. A true 4k camera that produced an amazingly stunning image on Smurfs 2. This movie just rose real high up the anticipation ladder. This will be reference material.

Going forward, as we move toward the display of greater and greater contrast ratio imagery both in cinema (Dolby Vision) and television, 24fps is going to become more of a viewing problem with HDR, e.g. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post11520586

so don’t be surprised if in years to come when HDR becomes more established in the creative community with motion pictures that it is supplemented with HFR capture in principal photography in order to improve picture quality by removing the accentuated flicker problem.

Many years ago I once competed in the Jack Pine National (http://www.lansingmotorcycleclub.org/pastchampions.html ) up north.

Friends and family, most important. I might have forgotten where you’re from but I do remember the pic of you with your young nephew.

And it may happen sooner than people might think as several months ago there was a short film by another pioneering group in France (with France Television) which is believed to be the first UHD-TV Phase 2 (4K, HFR, HDR, WCG together) film produced...http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3i...f_tv#tab_embed

Fox discs looked to be cracked, or they found a way around.
Only Fox discs but 3 in the last 48 hours are out there

Ang Lee's new film at 120 fps will be a leading prognosticator of this.
The HFR of the Hobbit was so despised by the audience, that James Cameron almost fully backtracked on HFR for the Avatar sequels (he says he MAY use it sparingly for action sequences to avoid strobing). So, the audience has (initially) spoken on HFR: they hate it.
But Ang Lee's film is fully double the HFR of the Hobbit (120 instead of 60). We shall see.
But it was telling that even Cameron had a "come to Jesus" moment with HFR, saying that it takes the magical quality away from a movie - and you end up watching actors on sets instead of characters in a setting. There IS such a thing as too much clarity.

I wouldn't say that he "almost fully backtracked" as from what I've read he'll still very keen on using HFR for action scenes or slow panning shots (the latter he consciously avoided when shooting Avatar) but yes, he said that for normal scenes it was like looking at people in make-up on a stage. Whether Hobbit led to this epiphany or not is unclear, Cameron said that he's got his own take on HFR and Jackson has his.

Jackson got to do his version first, we might get Cameron's take on it sometime this millennium with the Avatar sequels, and while it's great that Ang Lee is coming up with this 4K 120fps 3D solution I have huge doubts about just how much of that total experience people will get in the average cinema, so if it ends up being boiled down into a 2K 3D 48fps or 60fps version then the audience reaction may well end up being the same as with Hobbit. Cameron's variable version might end up being the last throw of the dice for theatrical HFR.

The Hobbit trilogy was 48 fps.

Ang Lee's film would also have to be converted with less than ideal means for home video because even UHD does not support 48 or 120 fps.

HFR also gets no love from the consumer electronics companies. 60 fps was added to UHD for the sole purpose of being able to view camcorder footage.

The question is where? No current DLP system can even project 120 fps.

And there's no way a theater chain is investing in a new projection system for this, when 48 fps tanked so badly with movie goers.

fits, as I said before, something which what wasn’t revealed at NAB 2016, is that so far, the behind the scenes goal is for two, or maybe 3 venues (east coast, west coast, perhaps overseas) to get ‘special’ installations to enable Billy Lynn to be shown in its full native format.

As for Cinema projector systems (DCI/DCP servers), even though the deliverables will of course be boiled down (with higher fps favored over resolution), the thinking is that starting from a 4K 120fps 360 shutter source has merit even for those *lesser* (ex. 120fps 2K 2D or 60fps 2K 3D) DCI compliant formats which could be handled in some local Digital Cinemas…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7jn...tu.be&t=58m08s

D'you think there's any chance we could get a 60p UHD disc version (in 2D, natch)?

We all know that home entertainment guys from all Hollywood studios fancy having consumers double dip on movies. So if past history is an indicator of future behavior, in order to optimize profits, I guess SPHE could first release a 24p version (post production starting out with the 120fps 360° shutter source material and do good frame blending (e.g. http://hollywoodpostalliance.org/wp-...esentation.pdf) to achieve that traditional fps version.

Then, maybe months later, promote and sell a Billy Lynn ‘HFR’ version (60p) for home media enthusiasts.....perhaps enclosed as a freebie with the yet to be launched Sony Ultra HD Blu-ray player. Personally, I’d prefer the 60p version first, or both versions offered ASAP at the same time.

HFR was hated by film purists but most of the comments in forums that I read were positive. Since a lot of film purists are critics I think the backlash looked bigger than it really was.

Every "average" film goer I know - not only hated The Hobbit in HFR - they grilled me about what the technology was, so they could have a "name" for what they hated so much - so they could avoid it in the future.
It was not the film purists. Even James Cameron hated it so much he rethought the entire way he was going to shoot the Avatar sequels. (Very little HFR)

You keep saying that but that's not the vibe I got from Cameron's interview with Empire at all, I've quoted the relevant part in an old post (because this sort of noise has come up before): https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=6740

He's still a HUGE advocate of HFR but he'll use it in a more selective way.
