Which is their prerogative. I'm against it. I think they could include atmos remixes and still make the default track the original nearfield version done at time of theatrical mix. But w/e. The ship has sailed on that in the same way the ship has sailed on studios always delivering the original mix losslessly which I similarly think should be a non-default audio track for those that want it. |

"HDR has not yet been invented. But nine years from now, when the movie gets released in 4K, it will have been."
Edit: Just noticed all the extras are included in 4K, it's crazy to think of behind the scenes stuff done in 4k in 2011, when they were shooting. I wouldn't expect something like that even from Fincher. Last edited by Hedrox; 07-15-2021 at 01:44 PM. |

Bit the bullet and just ordered this from Zaavi. I've been holding off on purchasing the 4K digital version of this for quite a while so don't mind paying a bit extra for this + shipping from the UK, but hope it sees a US release soon.

No idea.

![]() I only took a very brief look, but it looked unnecessaryly bright to me at times at any rate. Whether that is Johnson or Yedlin approved, I don't know of course. And yeah, still very nice anyway. |

Maybe they burnt there fingers too much on the Knives Out 4K or Sony simply didn't invite them to the party.

I just took a (still very brief) closer look at this as my last action of the day so to speak and I'm really not sure what exactly we're looking at here and that's also in regard to the "grain"*. I'll call fake HDR at any rate. caps-a-holic at 150 should look interesting at times (no offense and I really mean that).
* It looks nice to me downscaled in motion, but it looks weird (and not right) to me when I take a closer look. |

I mean this is a Sony (tri-star) owned movie, right? As early as 2013 they were prepping their library for Mi4K and they were on the HDR before anyone and it's basically mandated to utilize the specs. Maybe they could circumvent supervising of future grades, contractually. Just a speculative musing.
Just can't imagine Yedlin letting it off the hook like a Sony grade. Even though I could be wrong on this I perceived Knives Out not to be as gimped as Last Jedi. |

I mean them both not being fans of HDR at all and Sony trying to promote and sell a 4K disk which HDR is one or maybe THE key feature of, then it's probably wise not to involve Johnson & Yedlin too much or at all.

This is a very, very good looking presentation. Lots of detail. Also, Bit rate is always 70+ and regularly goes well over 100 Mbps which I have not seen happen with regularity in a UHD before. Some scenes were very grainy although for most I didn't really notice much. The whole [Show spoiler] but you just gotta ignore that stuff I guess and go with it. The movie is really good, and better than I remembered. Lots of interesting special features and I watched them all. I found the one about how the score and sounds were generated particularly interesting. I would highly recommend getting this release! |
