The extended cut is the only one I will buy. When you know your missing part of the story why would you want that. New Line hasn't shafted us yet although they haven't released a hell of alot yet. So lets hope Warner doesn't dictate to them how they would give us our movie. We want no EE,DNR, dolby digital.

I know a lot of people don't like the coffee table books that Warner has been doing, but I think this might be a title that would work particularly well since the original boxed sets were meant to emulate books.

According to the Digital Bits, it's true.

I hope by then Warner will be smart enough to provide the titles in highest bit rate video and full HD audio with no extra DNR. Hopefully they'll also be the extended editions.

I don't mind if the appendices aren't included as I'll keep my DVD sets, but if they are converted to Hi-def I'm good with that too
Till i hear which version what audio and a REAL date, it's not much more than a rumor

I'm not gonna buy them if they aren't the EE. Ideally they would have 7.1 uncompressed since...my poor 7.1 setup seldom gets to shine.

This thread should be moved to the wish list forum. Blu-ray release of the LOTR films, extended or theatrical, is purely speculative at this point

If they come out as 7.1 MA and they don't bitstream as 7.1 to my Pioneer AVR, like previous New Line releases, I for one, will be sorely disappointed.

The EE ones is the Blu rays that should be released you get so many important answers on the EE. If you have seen the extended and read the book you feel there is a big chunk missing in the theatrical. I hope they release them as seamless branching then all will be happy

You're right, my previous post was vague: The release date and the release of 'Lord of the Rings' is speculative. The insert says only 'coming soon' and only Fellowship is mentioned. Basically, a sticky thread about 'LOTR in 2009' is silly. It'll be 1000 posts deep by next month and for what? At the least, the title should be changed; it's very misleading. Who knows what could happen between now and 'soon'. I'm not trying to burst anyone's bubble - I want to see this release as much as anyone - but it's a bad idea to get so amped so quickly and with so little information

One more time... TheDigitalbits.com indicates their sources, which are spot on, say 2009.

I'm sure if Warner has anything to do with it, they will be in TrueHD 5.1. Warner would be the last studio I'd expect to release anything with 7.1.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner...:~)

I do prefer the 'Extended Edition' versions myself, but when we first had the Memorial Day marathon, we switched to the 'Theatrical Cut' version for "The Two Towers" due to time constraints. By the next year we had more time available so viewing the 'EE' verison of all 3 was suggested, but most of the group prefered the 'TC' for "The Two Towers" as it was better paced and got past the (as one of my friends put it) "depressing" stuff faster. We opened to floor to futher suggestions for which version to use (if we could edit the scenes together) for each scene for the next year. After looking over the suggestions (submited over the intervening year), we settled on the current arangement as the best compromise between what the group consensus was, and what limited the disc changes to an accpetable minimum.

If we had a DVD (or better yet, Blu-ray) of each movie that allowed seamless branching of the different versions of each scene, then we could program in our own custom edit to watch the movies as we want to. That was the whole point of my sharing the fact that we use both versions in out annual LOTR Memorial Day marathon, and to introduce the concept of custom editing. I do watch the movies on my own once evey other year or so (and/or some of the extras on both versions) and I usually watch the EE versions myself, but I do like seeing the version we watch as a group each year too.

Hope that answers your question,
TBM

I hope PJ have enough POWER to make them as he wish, so we will get at least DTS HD MASTER 6.1
