Think of it like this, when someone wants to borrow your coveted Lord of the Rings set, give them your theatrical versions. I keep my paperback versions of LotR for precisely this reason.

I will be getting the theatrical versions day one. EE would be nice but seriously they are really long anyway. I will still double dip though and gift out the theatrical versions when the time comes.

What is so special about the Extended Version can anyone tell me. Is it just more film>?

It ads more to the story (About an hour to each film). The added material helps to develop the story more and explains more in depth what is going on. I enjoy the extended of 2 & 3 (I have not seen the first one extended)

I think the added time is 30 min, 40 min, and 50 min to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.

After watching the EE versions on DVD again..I canceled my preorder for this. Unless a really good sale comes along... I'll just netflix these and wait for the EE versions on Blu.

Count me in, I'm sure a family member will buy these for me for the holidays. I'll probably pick up the Extended Cuts whenever they get released, too.

I manage to get LOTR pre order + 2 harry potter + 2 movie cash to see the new harry potter for $75 total in wbshop (25% off + buy2get1 coupons), that is good deal hard to pass even if this is not extended edition.
