I may hold off for the Extended Editions. I just watched them for the first time a few months ago and thought they were the better cut.

How is it greedy?

It would be greedy if they mentioned these without any notification of the extended releases at all and made people believe that this would be the only one to get put out. And then release the extended ones after all down the road. Forcing a double dip.

They are saying that the extend cuts ARE coming out, so those who want them don't have to buy the Theatricals if they don't want.

I think you will be dissapointed if you either just like or-I suspect-love the movies.Wait for EE would be my advice if you are not rich

Wish they'd do it that way too, but I wonder if it's even possible with a BD50. Understand that the EE's of some of them are pushing the limits of a BD50 before you throw in seamless branching and the like.

I wonder if WB will add the collection to the DVD2Blu promotion. If they do, I'm so there. 'Twould be great if the promotion continued long enough to also offer an upgrade of the EE set. Probably won't, but I can dream.

That would be nice to save a few bucks.

To be fair, after they were released on DVD, common sense says that Blu would get the extended versions eventually. It's not like they had to announce it.... we know they're coming.

I don't follow your logic. Telling the world about it doesn't mean they're not greedy. Just means they're open about their greed.

True, but to me, that makes it even more illogical to call them greedy for releasing the theatricals first.

I don't understand how releasing them both at the same time isn't greedy but releasing them both just at different times IS.

I think some people just won't be able to wait for the extended cuts and end up buying the theatricals and then ***** and moan about it again when the extendeds comes around.

Note: I am NOT talking about you specifically TheSoviet. It's just your comment made me think of it

Oh I didn't say they aren't greedy, they probably are.

But saying they are greedy for releasing them at two separate times instead of together is just illogical to me. If the extended cut fans truly wait for the extended cuts, Warner won't make any more money than they would if they released them at the same time.

It basically is greed, but that's the way business works. I can't blame them for that.

They know that many people won't have the willpower to wait for the extended versions.

Well I guess since I'm a business major I prefer the term "profit maximization" over "greed"

So maybe I'm just biased.

I like the theatrical cuts better than the EE (I own both on DVD).

Can't wait for lossless on these! The DTS on the EEs is pretty freakin' great already.

That MSRP should go down a little bit since it is 3 BD, 3 DVD, 3 DCD (Digital Copy Disc) instead of 6 BD and 3 DCD.
It's not "lame" if the special features were shot in standard definition. Its aftually better, since blu-ray players will upconvert SD material to look better, But if you'd rather have your SD put on a blu and not upconverted, be my guest.

Re-read the post. I said it is lame for those who like to have HD extras. Regardless of how it was shot or what type of disc it is on, if it isn't HD, some people are bound to complain.

I personally couldn't care less what the special features are on because I won't be watching them.

What was the time span between the original theatrical and extended edition box sets on DVD?

It sounds like the Ralph Bakshi animated LOTR. Ironically, as much as there is to dislike about Bakshi's version, it actually follows the books in several places where Jackson's does not.

But it also deviates in many ways as well; instead of Glorfindel meeting the fellowship on the way to Rivendell, Bakshi insert Legolas, etc. Also, the Bakshi version ends with the battle of Helms Deep.

If i'm not mistaken, is it not cause they ran out of money on it?
