I owned the 2-disc theatricals on DVD since they were released and have only watched them each once, so I don't think I"ll be double dipping...meaning I'll wait to get the Extendeds since they are the version I have yet to see plus I'm a sucker for special features.

since I caught the second two at the cinema. But I'll definitely want to see the Extended ones so I'll just go with those on BD. Hopefully they'll also have branching for both version, but I've read there might be issues with that. Anyway, I'll wait, there's no rush for me. Plenty to watch in the mean time. And also some price-dropping waiting-time of course, cause the set will probably be pricey at first... :\ |

The EE DVD's upscale nicely on a PS3 and have a very good 6.1 DTS soundtrack. I can live with that until EE's come out on blu-ray.
I like the theatric cuts a lot less than the EE's, I never even had any interest in buying them on DVD. |

I mean for a DVD, as in it doesn't looks amazingly sharp but it's really clean and detailed. Almost makes me wonder why I'd get the BD to only see more of the CGI. Which is amazing for the time, but making it sharper only makes it clearer... Wait... I have a reason... Naomi... ![]() |

When first announced, there was no way I was going to double dip (Quadruple dip with DVDs if you look at it that way). But since the steelbook announcements and the fact that Blockbuster Canada looks to have these for $49.99 on pre-order, I started leaning towards the Theatrical Editions. $20 a movie is worth it for LOTR for me.
But what put it over the top is that my wife and I watch movies on Friday and Saturday nights only after we put the 3 year old down. We never once watched disc 1 & 2 of any movie in one night. Long story short, we started watching the trilogy on Christmas night, and never made it to disc 2 of RotK. We have watched the extended editions 5 or 6 times now, and what at first was great for my wife to get more info (having not read the books), is now more so a long movie experience. I'll be happy to have the theatricals back in the house - especially since it's one disc, and it's easier to push watching the end of a movie in one evening when you don't have a disc changing intermission... I'll buy the extended editions too when they come out, and hope that there is branching so I could sell the theatricals at that point in time. |

I don't necessarily like it but I will double dip. Not sure why people are so upset about this. Weren't the original dvd's released and then the extended editions released later? Studios are in it to make money. If people don't want to buy the theatricals and wait for the extended editions so be it. For me it will be worth it.

If not that, at least no waiting because the technology and crowd for certain big films is there. Plus, today we're more on top of the releases than before, every day and constantly we're like eagerly awaiting the next big thing. I must agree though, I wish they'd release a bit more special things on BD. We're already a bit behind with the format to start with, so bring on the cool releases. At least a little quicker... ![]() On the other hand I want them to get it right, so not rush them out the door either. But it's not that I MUST have "TLOTR EE"-BD in my paws right now, unlike some. ![]() Only it feels like it already should have been out to be honest. There's been too much talk about it. XD |

I am really torn on getting everything released right away. My budget simply doesnt support it. If I can get the theatricals now and double dip in 2012 it's better for me. Part of me wants every movie to come out on blu, but it's better for me to just roll them out every month.
