I'll be buying on Tuesday and I can't wait. If FOTR is not up to par so be it. Every review I have read indicates that even FOTR is an improvement over DVD on the PQ, and all of the movies blow the DVD and any kind of HD broadcast out of the water on the AQ side. Enjoying films entails viewing and listening

For myself, I've already double dipped on the franchise. I purchased the theatrical DVDs when they were release ($75 + tax). I purchased the extended editions when they were released ($120 + tax). If I purchase these theatricals on Blu-rays ($60 + tax) and then the extended editions on Blu-ray (guessing $100 + tax), I will have given over $400 for one set of films. As good as they are, THEY ARE NOT WORTH THAT KIND OF QUADRUPLE DIP! ESPECIALLY NOT AFTER HAVING SEEN THE EXTENDED EDITIONS! |

I posted this in another thread i made but i was told to come here. I was contemplating buying but i have some worries
"im worried about something else. What if they remaster the picture again when they release the movies separately. Then i will feel like i got gypped. Then i dont want to see them redo the picture quality yet again when they release the extended editions." |

Yeah, that is why I posted a trusted review from this very site to point out the frustrations with the PQ. I don't understand this blind fan-boy mentality. I love Blu-Ray. I have bought close to 300 movies on the format and have rented countless others. But come on. LOTR deserved better, and so do the consumers that buy it.
But hey, maybe Warner will listen to some of the criticism and do something about it for the next release. |

If you are not happy, you can wait and see what happens when the EE's are released. I don't expect Warner to remaster the theatrical edition anytime soon though. Netflix/Blockbuster for the win. |

This is a little thing compared to the fact that the wide majority of reviewers seem to feel like the failed on Video Quality, but I don't like the fact that the shell casing is made to hold a seperate case specifically for digial copies.

I still have hope that they will do the next release or releases right and that is why we should not be quiet and not accept this. If we dont let them know that this is not OK, we will continue to get sub-par releases like this one ![]() |

Complaining more about DNR doesn't mean you're more "sensitive" to it, it just shows that you make the absurd assumption that if people aren't complaining about it then they can't see it. |

That seems high. If Lucas didn't release the Special Editions on Blu-Ray I wouldn't buy it. SE > Theatrical release LOTR deserves more than just an HD transfer with a DVD of a few extras from a previous release. This is just the first release of many I'm sure will come. |

This is so obviously the first of a stream of releases that will include special editions and remasters. The DVD track-record of Jackson's two blockbusters should make that clear. I'm seeing far too much Chicken-Little behavior over this one. ... and again on the SE of 'Star Wars'. God forbid Lucas should make his classic even better. |

Smaller sets? There has been people with 50" screens and Up as well that has said they does not look as bad as some people say And yes it is a big deal when you expect the worst and then get surprised to find it actually rather good. You wanna know why that is, its because when you have your mind set on something it is very hard to change it. Its the same when you go to the theater and watch a movie and you expect the worst, chances are when you have seen it you still would think the worst about it. To change that outcome is a really big deal and the experience will have to be great to change that ![]() |

Well i have just finished watching "The two towers",and it seems the forum has moved on a fair bit since then, well it is a long movie i suppose, and some of the battle's on this forum would rival "helms deep".
Back to the movie, the picture quality was a little sharper than Fellowship, and i have to be fair the looked pretty good to me all the way through, the tone of the second film is a lot darker then the first,so gone is the fairytale look and is replaced by a more gritty war like feel. The sound again like Fellowship is top notch, and captures the battle scenes perfectly, the score is dramatic as ever and feels like you could be there. These Hi def audio formats never fail to impress me. Back to the boxsets picture quality,i have now watched a big part of the trilogy, only "The return of the king" remains, and by all accounts there is little wrong with this transfer,i have to say i am very impressed with these Blu-ray's and even the worst transfer the Fellowship's minor issues did not drag me from the movie,in fact i have enjoyed every minute i have spent in front of my screen. Now i take my movie viewing pretty seriously, and i have spent a lot of time getting my cinema room perfect for viewing movies, and recently have watched a wide range of movies "The dark knight" was the last film before i watched the Fellowship, and it is a better transfer, but as i have said before you can't compare two movies like this. Ask me the question could this release be any better, and i will say of course it can,the question is how much? but up to now is this release the total disaster some people make it out to be,i would say no and have no regrets in buying this boxset. Now of course people will point out that this is my opinion, but as i have said before people have to look at this release with their own eyes, and make up their own mind, and respect each others opinion. All this talk about certain people being more qualified than others to judge is unfair,as i am not going to let someone tell me what to think on this matter, and no one else should for that matter,o.k reviewers play an important role, but just remember it's their job to point out faults, and what is distracting in a review situation, may not be so for someone while they are in the middle of a movie, getting dragged along by the whole experience of it. So as i said before rent these movies or buy if you prefer, and watch them on your set-up and decide for yourself on their quality, and try to keep an open mind, you may be surprised. |
