It's ok man. You mentioned two things I love (Favre and Norwegian Wood) - you earned some slack in my book.

I still think it's silly to form an opinion based on someone else's conclusions.

If you told me "Favre threw 3 TDs and 1 INT," I'd check the facts. Maybe, just maybe, you're wrong. And maybe he threw the one INT in overtime to lose the game. Or maybe he rushed for 150 yards and ran for another score.

Point being: you might've left something out of your analysis. Again, I'll review the facts and decide for myself what they mean to me.
I think that's true, too. I'm not saying it isn't

That's why I'm renting these so I can see for myself.

That doesn't change certain facts about its transfer though. That's where I think people aren't understanding one another here. One side is pointing out the DNR and the like that does exist, the other side is saying "It looks great!"
Neither side is “lying.” Such things exist in the transfer, for one group of people they didn't detract from the overall viewing experience.

Personally I've never not watched a BD based on what someone else has claimed. The only bearing those claims have is whether or not I purchase the movie right out, rent it, or then rent it then purchase it.

For example, I had Patton preordered. Once I saw the glaring DNR applied I changed it to a rental. Once I watched it I went "eeesh" and had no interest in buying it. I bought 2 Blade Runner limited edition briefcases. I watched it, thought it was spectacular. Later I saw a thread on AVS pointing out the very slight DNR applied, people were carrying on as if it were the end of the world and that the transfer was completely "botched" because of it. I watched it again - it was just as spectacular to my eyes. Me seeing the specific instances they were talking about changed my experience not at all. That slight amount did not bother me in the slightest, to be honest I don’t think it would’ve made a perceptible difference regardless of what display you used and what distance you sat back from it. I was still blown away by the job Warner did with it.

Favre actually bought this you know. He thought it was a terrible transfer. Then he said he loved it.

After that he decided it was terrible again.

Just a few seconds ago though he said it was one of the best ever.

It was tough to decide from the TT and ROTK, but i think ROTK had a slight advantage.

not in my main HT viewing area I watched them in my basement office where i have a nice gateway 24" LCD FPD2485W which does 1080p via HDCP DVI in. it's connected to an Oppo BDP-80 via an HDMI (HDCP) switch and i have an analog receiver to get my 5.1 lossless from the Oppo. i watched about 45 minutes of the FOTR and it looked incredible to me. mind you this isn't on my gear listed in my signature but what i saw on that 24" LCD @ 1080p looked really good. so for me, if this was supposed to be the worse of the three based on what i have seen so many state (including the pro's) then the other two must be reference quality. i will sit down and watch the entire movie, upstairs on the big gear but what i saw tonight i'm surprised that there is quite as much negative speaking out against the PQ. perhaps it just looks good to me and that's good enough. i'm probably not at the level of some for "what is supposed to look good" but i think it looks good to me, even on my secondary setup it looks good. no complaints thus far. the audio is very, very good (i did skip around to some of the good audio parts)

i'm just happy to see the movie again. i do have the ROTK EE DvD, i did put it on (the oppo 80) and it looked great, i put on the blu ROTK TE and it looked much, much better than the DvD which was upconverted mind you. so again, i'm very happy with my purchase, thus far. once i get this thing up on the 55" screen then i'll report back. oh and yes, this 24" 1080p is a great LCD for movies. it is also connected to a cableTV HD-DVR and two computers and everything looks great. the pc's get 1920 x 1200 rez!

i hope you all don't beat me up too bad for "going against the grain" with what i had to say about the video's so far.

watching FOTR as i type this and think it looks great.

yeah there are some spots here and there that don't look as good, but i'm forming the opinion that there has been a lot of *****ing the last couple of days for nothing.

enjoy the awesomeness that are these movies!!!

i don't know how i feel about a 3 disc case being dedicated to just digital copies though.

I just wanted to show the detail in some shots.

You can see the pores in his skin while other facial shots can look
waxy in other scenes.
WOW that is really incredible detail.Almost reference. I even think Todd would agree on that

Wow... captures direct from the video stream are apparently "innaccurate" but a sub-720p PHOTO OF A TV is "almost reference"....
guess that gives me some perspective as to why some people can't understand the criticisms of this release

"The Two Towers" is so clear, that at several points you can see slight makeup smudges on some of the actors.

If some people refuse to buy the set based on the opinions of others, whether they have seen the release or not, it will be their loss, in my opinion.

Well said, also, I get ridiculed just pointing out that FOTR has inconsistencies regarding the PQ. Even though it is true, according to many reliable sources.

I don't think he is being sarcastic. That screenshot looks GOOD, even at the low resolution it was captured at.

I don't think it's bad or good: it's irrelevant. It reveals nothing about the quality of the disc. It's a 1024xsomething photo probably taken with a point and shoot digicam, and I'd be viewing the disc with human eyeballs on a calibrated 1080p Pioneer. It doesn't tell me anything worthwhile.

Given the smileys he used, I interpreted his comment as such. The shot does look good and I can attest to seeing such clarity on my t.v. The picture itself, taken with a camera shot at the t.v. is not what I would consider "reference quality." I agree with his point that there are several points in the movie with such clarity.

The previous poster had a point. Circular logic is not beneficial.
