Default Run, Don't Walk and Pick This Up

OK, I was taking alot of mental notes and was prepared to go into extreme detail, but instead, allow me to sum this up briefly. I have just seen FoTR, which according to every review, has the most questionable PQ of the three films. If that is the case, there is nothing to worry about. Let's put this into perspective for a moment. What we are talking about here is a film about a story that was voted in several polls as the best story of the century, and in one poll, the best story of the millenium. After waiting almost 50 years for technology to permit the story to be told properly, these films were made passionately by thousands of people over several years for hundreds of millions of dollars. After an additional 9 years, they have finally been released in high definition format.
As A/V hobbyists, this is payday - the moment for which we've been waiting: all of that time and thousands of dollars we have invested into A/V gear can be now be used to maximum effect.
For those who wish, if you want to trivialize this and look for DNR or other glitches, you can find some, and if you are really bent on it, in a couple of years the EE's will probably be available. But, for those sitting on the fence, you are robbing yourself of an incredible experience NOW.

i've officially gotten to the point of being annoyed w/this thread.....kinda the same way i did w/the gladiator thread back in sept.

for those of you that were willing to check these movies out for yourselves, enjoy them.

for those of you waiting for the EE's or dismissing this set b/c of what others have said, your loss i guess.

i'm off to enjoy the rest of FOTR.....well, b/c i can.

I'm so glad I like the theatrical versions better. It just means I will never be waiting for Lord of the Rings again on a home format.

Next up..Star Wars!!!

I'm one of the people complaining, I will watch them.

Nothing to do with it not being the EE.

I never had any problems with this release, before the lackluster PQ of Fellowship was shown that is.

Just finished watching The Fellowship of the Ring and it looked a lot better than I expected (considering some of the comments). Overall, I thought it looked pretty good and the sound is great. I love the score/sound effects in this movie and it doesn't disappoint at all in that regard. I know my neighbors are going to be pissed but no way I was turning it down. I wanted the house to shake and it did a great job of doing that.

Anyway, I had been holding off watching it on DVD or on TV for a while now so it was a real treat watching it on blu-ray. Can't believe I finally have the trilogy on blu-ray!

I haven't gotten a chance to watch my copies. I got 2 other blu's today besides LOTR so it's going to take awhile.

I didn't see any on my Samsung 50" Plasma. I believe some others saw them. Why they did, I can't say.

I am not knowledgeable enough on the subject matter to comment on that aspect.

Probably a minor flaw inherent in the transfer. The reason people aren't noticing it is probably because:

It happens for such a few amount of frames that you're likely to miss it regardless (by watching it motion it is likely so brief that you could miss it by blinking or by not looking at that portion of the screen at that specific moment)

or

it happens on the very upper extent of the image so for the people that have even the slightest amount of overscan (most people I'd guess) this portion of the image is obscured.

I haven't seen it in motion though, so that's just speculation

i saw them for a split second in one of the darker scenes, dude believe me im a a whole when it comes to PQ. LOTR is not bad at all. FOTR is about 3.5 out of 5 because of the grain but it still has 4.5 parts its just a little inconstant thats all. TT is 4.5 all day and ROTK is almost 5.0. The AQ is 5.0 on all three. Just check out my review on the movie itself. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-L...-Reviews/5174/

Couldn't agree more. I have a feeling this is just like a ripple effect. People just to follow what everyone else says. I've seen it happen sooo many times before with blu-ray releases. I picked my copy up today and couldn't be any happier.

Very disappointed with FOTR but I didnt have to pay for my review copy. The other 2 look great. Definitely a rent and not a buy.
