Yeah. They said from the beginning the scourging of the shire was not going to be in the movies.
I think it would screw with the timing too much. Don't get me wrong, it was GREAT in the book, brought it all together for me. But in the movie, it would not have worked so well, it would have felt like it was tacked on at the end. There is not enough footage to add it back, and I am glad they don't have it. Those who think movies should be exactly like the original book counterparts should understand movies are a different medium, and have to be portrayed in different ways. Few books-turned-movies are that close to each other, and knowing when, where, and how to make the essential changes between book and film is an art form, and is essential to a successful film. |

I don't think anyone has said this yet, so I'm going to:
It better be the extended edition or I'm not buying it. EDIT: I'm gonna buy it, no matter what. Last edited by Barbie-Shrimp; 10-21-2008 at 09:18 PM. Reason: Wait, I'm buying it regardless. |

With The Hobbit (in two parts or with sequel) coming in 2010/2011, I wonder what form LOTR would appear in before that. I can well see them just releasing the theatrical editions, knowing full well that people will double dip just like they did the last time around. But we'll see.

Also, if u look at this thread, not an awful lot of people are keen to double-dip. Still, nice marketing move to coincide the blu-rays with the the Hobbit. |

I really hope it will be a seamless branching release with at least all the extra's found on the current releases in HD (not the "may be in standard definition" crap). A nice 1080p/24 picture (hi - bitrate) and DTS HD MA 24-bit. I really can't wait.

I don't want to wait another year before I can watch the "real" version. |
