I'll most likely rent the Theatrical releases and then buy the EE's when they are on special.

Now why on earth would you think that? The EE's will be no more than 30 something bucks each Im sure.

Oh and for the record I bought the EE's the day they came out on SDVD (as they came out) and only paid 24.00 each! Not sure where you are getting this 60 dollar figure...because if you paid anywhere close to 60 bucks you got ripped off!

I think I paid $30 for mine. This was for the first go around of the extended editions and not the later released ones that had both theatrical and extended on it.
Maybe the $60 he paid was for the box set with the book ends and what not that they did for each one.

I paid 24.99 for each of the EE's (the 4 disc sets) as they came out (one a year) the first ones that look like books. Yeah he must have been talking about those bookends and all that..

Originaly the EE were more expensive and they came with some collectibles. I remember buying them when they first came out for my brother, he was in Asia in November of 2002 when the first EE was release, it was way more then $30 then, then the prices drop and they also removed the collectible at one point.

Listen my brother in law and I bought the EE's the Green, Red and Blue Books brand new on the day they came out respectively. They were released one year apart (if memory serves) we got them for 24.99 each at Wal Mart. They were never more than 30 dollars...not here in Texas anyway! I think 29.95 was the standard.

The point is why would a 2 disc EE Blu set for each film with extras be more than 30 something dollars each? It wouldnt...that's all im saying.

That is weird, cause they were something like $70 here and mine have 4 disc not 2.. Ok there was the collectible stuff and my bother wanted it and I wasn't sure how long it would remain available so I got it for him

It applies because there was going to be NO VERSION made available. My perception is that WB decided to do a TE release because people didn't want to wait for the EEs. In advance of this thread, we'd have a topic pop about every 3 days around here "when is LOTR coming to blu-ray" with the answer - not until PJ is done & ready - likely a long time and not until Hobbit.

So if it's not a problem for Lucasfilm to hold Star Wars - and the other option was for them to hold altogether for PJ's preferred EE release - I don't see the problem with releasing TE as a stopgap.

So I guess more effectively - if the choice is between the TE being released (and you getting to choose whether or not to buy it) and no version getting released at all until PJ is done with the EE - which do you think is more customer friendly?

I'm not out to antagonize you D-V-D You and I see eye to eye on most things, and you stuck around the HTF fighting the good fight long after I couldn't handle being there anymore ... I just think we have a disconnect on this one issue

Ah sorry missunderstood you on the 2 disc. So it's good you got a break on the prices.

Actually, we *really* see things differently in this case...

for me personally, I'd rather actually *have* the theatrical-cuts of the Start Wars films on Blu-ray... and could wait indefinitely or never for the release of the extended/enhanced versions...

BTW, back on LOTR,

my problem is with Jackson not allowing the EE version to be released now as-is... not with WB trying to release something rather than nothing. After all, Jackson had to give WB the green light for the theatrical cuts... so IMO he should have given the green light for both versions using existing HD masters and then withheld bonus material for the later special-editions to justify a repurchase for devoted fans when Hobbit comes.

I have no problem with them releasing the TE cuts first. I just wish everyone would stop making excuses about the reason behind it. The EE's right now would not take that long put out. What else can you really add to the EE's? Nothing....so they just need to admit they are doing to to tie in with The Hobbit.

How do you know how long the EEs will take to put out, oh wait you don't. And you can cross 8 1/2 off your list.

Well it will be at least a year and is dependent upon when the TEs are released.

Oh so remastering them in HD takes longer than the TE's? Hmm...ok. Wow did not know that 30-45 min extra of film would take a year longer.....

Actually we don't. I was making reference to the usual interminable waiting for ANY Star Wars on a new home video format. I'm already prepared for the disappointment he's ready to visit on us with the next release - Super JarJar-ified SE "final edition" with "workprint" as a 100mg digital copy file "because people demanded it".

It's too bad the Library of Congress doesn't get rights to the films in the National Film Registry - at least the first one would be preserved as a resulte.

Default $60 EE on DVD

I believe the $60 for extended edition DVDs refers to the collectors gift box. Then there was a $40 option which didhn't include the sculpture.
