Calm down Isildur's Heir, these movies will be ours soon enough. Well yours at least, still waiting for a price drop and with 4 months to go, I'll probably get one.

$45, I could probably go $50 since I like them so much but I've been burned on trilogy prices before. There are only two trilogies I would pay $70 each for and they're not LoTR.

I think (without coupons/gift cards) you'll probably be waiting a while to get it for $45 man.
Though $45 would be great

$60 is my highest willingness to pay. I won't drop more than $20 each.

But if I have to wait, I'll wait, the dvds are adequate looking upconverted, and I only watch the movies every couple of months anyway.

It will drop if everyone would hold out for the EE! that would be so funny if sales were dismal.

That is one of the biggest factors, yes. Due to the length and nature of the movies, you pretty much have to set aside 11 hours to watch them. That pretty much kills the rewatchability factor for me. Not to mention I've seen all 3 movies many times before, it would be hard to justify paying a lot for them, even on blu-ray. I do think this will actually kill sales on these movies after the first week, as I doubt I'm the only one who thinks this way.

I've held on to my Amazon preorder since they first posted it way back when. I figure there either will or won't be a price drop between now and the week before release and if it stays at $70 I can cancel and reorder when I like the price better, but if there is one of those little price blips that lasts only a couple of hours, I'll get it.

Count me in as one of the saps who will double-dip for the EE later and pay full-price on release-day.

Readily available disposable income ftw!

Yeah, when the source material is poor. In this case, the source material is spectacular. The fact is that lossless is lossless, PCM, Dolby, DTS, whatever. Once decoded, the Dolby and DTS lossless tracks are identical to the PCM track, identical to the master.

The only issue I have with WB on this release is that they consistently refuse to use 24 bit tracks. I would love to get a 96/24 track for each of these films, though I would be happy with a 48/24 set of tracks, but I suspect we will get the usual 48/16 track. But, even if that is the case, barring them doing a 7.1 DTS track, there would be no quality difference whether they went with True HD or HD MA.

Point taken...I guess we'll have to wait and see (or "hear" rather).

Instead of watching them all at one shot, I watch half a movie a day; that way it spreads the experience out over six days and makes it much more enjoyable.

i will be buying these on day 1, but as im sure many of you, like me, already own the EE on DVD (presumably identical extras) , and i dont have any use for digital copies, what exactly is the point of me getting the boxset?

basically if they were on individual sale and it was cheaper, then that would be my preferred option

now when the EE come out on blu, and they have all new fancy dan extras in hd, then i would buy that boxset also

i just dont see the point in buying a boxset that will in all probablility have extras i already have, and in the same quality

I'm out for the TE boxset. I can wait longer for the EE one. Does anyone know the reason for the special features being on regular DVDs though? Also, are most of the special features the ones found on the DVD versions of the LotR movies (from any three of the DVD versions released)?

Meh. It doesn't make me want the Blu-rays anymore than I already do. And I want them a lot, sure; but I don't see how a re-edited trailer is going to further entice me.
