That could be done the next time someone does LOTR as a completely CGI piece. |

An utter waste of time, money and energy - for all concerned: both developer and buyer.
A disgraceful attempt to get money off people, which is then intended to be augmented by a later release. Disgusting. They have had a *very* long time to sort this out, and their decision may simply be timed to promote another financial effort: The Hobbit in the cinemas. Release the full films as one set in full quality video and sound. Simple. Just do it. Appalling. |

I've said this before, but I will be buying the theatrical editions. Partially for run time, but mostly because I love the movies to death. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything, so there's really no reason to be angry about it. The extended editions are coming. There's always Netflix to give them a rent if you're against buying the set or will have trouble waiting.
As for me, I can't wait to see the trilogy in hi def. Some of the scenes I'm stoked to see on blu: -Gandalf and Frodo riding the cart, and the Hobbiton reveal -The entry to Rivendell, just gorgeous -The entire Mines of Moria sequence... the Balrog ![]() -Helm's Deep.... all of it ![]() -The Destruction of Isengard -All the wicked landscape helicopter shots -The Siege of Gondor, Pelennor Fields -Shelob's Lair -The Finale at the Black Gates and Mt. Doom -Heck... EVERYTHING! I usually have a once a year trilogy viewing around Christmas, but will be waiting until April to watch it on blu. |

+1. These versions are the ones I first saw and fell in love with, so I don't see why people are so against them. I own the extended editions on DVD, and I enjoy them, but I don't need to wait another year or two to enjoy this trilogy in hi-def.

I'm buying both because I like both. Now if Tombstone ever comes out on BD, I want only the longer version.

Because the EE are better ( to quite a few of us) and if you prefer the EE's why let the studio and Peter Jackson hold you hostage. I hope these sell poorly.....so poorly that they take notice.

Have you not learned: studios never take notice. Or if they ever do, it's rarely and far between. WB obviously heard or saw the negative feedback (e.g., Amazon customer "reviews"), but they could not care less. They double-dip on titles all the time: Polar Express, Natural Born Killers, Goodfellas... the list goes on.

Interesting. I just wish they'd release both on the same day, so I could pick up the EEs and be done with it. Since they're not, I'll just buy the originals, and then pass on the EEs when they're released. |

I'm one of those who'll "whimp out" for LOTR. But I won't buy the EEs, so at least they're not getting me to double-dip [Show spoiler] .

All of them in one big package would be a pain in the *** for those who DON'T want the EEs.
Releasing both versions at the same time (in separate packages) would be fine by me. As long as I wouldn't be forced to buy the EEs to get my TEs. |
