That is the 2nd biggest negative about the 'extended cuts' of LOTR movies. No original trailers on the discs! I loved those so much... especially the Two Towers and Return of the King trailers.

Oh and btw the biggest negative is they are on two dvd discs.

Be glad they are - the PQ and AQ for DVDs is stunning.

Same here. Countless folks have done the numbers for it - I'd prefer two BDs for the best in technical aspects, for the EEs, in any case. Whether the regular editions fit or not, I'm not sure.

It's time for someone to come up with a multi-disk BD player like what has been around for years for DVD players.

Ahh! I'm hoping for $59.99 or even lower, but that would be way better.

I'm not really into The Lord Of The Rings. Saw all three movies during their theatrical run, tried to read the novels but got bored by Tolkien's excessive description of everything in the story, including the leaf of the tree that Frodo sat by to rest... but for some reason I'm actually looking forward to this release. Mostly, I want to see the work they'll do and see how this movie is on HD, not to mention the TrueHD track will surely rock my home theater system, but I also want to give this franchise a last chance. What better way to do that than watching it once more on Blu-Ray?

What is wrong with you people that want it on 2 discs.
You do know that the BD is 50Gb. And the extended movies can be on 1 disc only without cramping the PQ or the AQ. If King Kong a 200 min movie with U control can be on 1 disc with reference quality. LOTR EE can be on 1 disc as well and you know it so what is this 2 disc nonsense

You do know that the RotK:EE is about 250 minutes, right? I can't imagine that that would fit nicely on a single 50GB disc.

I think this has been said several times in this thread to no avail. If it takes 2 discs to have the best PQ and AQ, then so be it. If not, then do it on 1 disc. To me, having the best PQ and AQ trumps just about everything else.

You do realize Gods and Generals is 4 hours long right? And even on HD DVD that was on 1 disc and it looks great. I think Blu-Ray can handle Return of the King.

250 minutes for ROTK and 7.1 (I hope) audio..........I would feel MUCH better splitting this on 2 BD50s just to know we are getting the best quality If any film(s) deserves the best quality, it is these EEs.

However, we might have BD100s by the time these come out which would put them on 1 disc which would be great as well and the best of both worlds.

I would never have believed it, but: According to the Digital Bits, it's true.

I hope by then Warner will be smart enough to provide the titles in highest bit rate video and full HD audio with no extra DNR. Hopefully they'll also be the extended editions.

I don't mind if the appendices aren't included as I'll keep my DVD sets, but if they are converted to Hi-def I'm good with that too

While the graphic indicates coming soon, TheDigitalBits.com indicates that the titles are in fact coming in 2009. updated TheDigitalBits.com reports these are likely delayed until March 2010.

Gone with the Wind fit, and it was 238 minutes. I think it can be done.

Kingdom of Heaven is 194 minutes, and it fit nicely on a BD 25 in MPEG-2... If they use another video codec, RotK EE can fit very nicely on a BD 50 on one disc. I agree, I don't like having 2 discs, and I think this will make it pretty easy for them to do.

Same here. Besides, gives a good time on having breaks when you're doing a marathon. (Did it with the DVDs...EPIC! )

Only a 12 minute difference...sounds manageable. I just check DVD Beaver (the only site where the Blu-Ray reviews equal Blu-Ray.com) and it said the first disc, with the film and commentary, was 44.9 GB, with the film itself being 44.4 GB. I think ROTK EE can pull off a single disc release. Granted, I don't how much space that extra 12 minutes could take, but it's possible now that I know GWTW pulled it off.

Regarding bathroom breaks,

guys, can we all just agree that if we want to take a break during a movie we can just hit "pause"?

I don't see a logical connection between having a format limitation that forces a movie compression to be spread over two discs and the need to facilitate using the bathroom.

Of all the reasons to suggest that there are benefits to spreading compression over two discs, the "bathroom break" argument is moot.

im completely fine with the theater release, i have the extended versions on DVD have watched them once and doubt i will watch them again.. i don't get a whole of movie time to begin with and all the extras scenes really dont interest me

i prefer the theater release but im sure the hardcore fans want it and i dont see a problem in that.. ill snag this set because its fine for me

I think you are missing the point. That wasn't the major reason. It was just a supporting point.
