I certainly hope for the obviously eventual Extended Edition releases onto Blu-ray they'll have the same nice Digipak packaging for them. I do want all the films to be split over two discs each to take advantage of all the audio commentary tracks AND perhaps the DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 main track. I know Jackson stated he's putting together even more extras for the EE release of course. Here's hoping he'll combine the extras from the EE, Limited Editions AND all the new stuff he's coming up with.
A BD-25 exclusive look at The Hobbit would be nice for this set since of course this release would be timed before the release of The Hobbit Part I. Cool coincidence the Theatrical Editions are being released one day after my birthday this year. I always meant to get around to buying the Theatricals onto DVD since if I do really enjoy a film, I buy almost every release possible to get all the extras. OAR of course! Very idiotic of Warners to include digital copies in this release. Doesn't matter since I'll be using that disc spot for the single CD soundtrack disc and tossing the digital copy into the trash. Also needing a custom cover for that too. Now for The Hobbit Parts I & II eventual release. Think New Line, Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro will release them as both Theatricals first and then a few months down the line as Extended Editions? I know for The Lord of the Rings Peter and New Line released both and announced it in advance. Here's hoping there'll be exclusive extras for both versions i.e. LotR releases. Yep, I'll be buying both on Blu-ray! I wonder what the color scheme for both parts would be? It couldn't obviously be similar to LotR of course. The Fellowship of the Ring is a dark forest green, The Two Towers is a dark maroon and The Return of the King is a navy but ever so slightly darker. Any ideas for both The Hobbit films? |

And probably $70-$80 at BEst Buy. If you walk into a Walmart right now, there is no trilogy set above $59. And I expect fully the price of Blu-rays to go down just a little bit more in 3 months. Especially now that pricing is getting very competetive. |

I am really excited for this release!
I'm not that into LoTR, really. I've seen the theatrical versions once and one Extended Version. I have to admit.... don't hate me for it, but the theatrical versions just seem to work better for me. They're really long as it is, and don't run on and on. I have a feeling I'll be addicted to LoTR once I watch this set on Blu-Ray! And yes, it should definitely go down in price by the time April rolls around! Excited! ![]() |

I can't watch the DVD's anymore (knowing the BD release is imminent), though they have got their share of playing. I have alleviated that by watching the TNT HD presentations of LOTR this weekend. Thank goodness for TNT.

Hmm... Just saw this on Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lor...s_film_trilogy Blu-Ray Controversy Shortly after the announcement that Warner Bros. would be releasing the theatrical versions of the trilogy on Blu-ray and the Extended Editions at a later date, furious fans of the series flooded message boards and the Amazon Pre-Order Page with comments and 1-Star Reviews accusing Warner of "double-dipping" — that is, releasing a (relatively) bare-bones version of a movie first, then waiting to release a beefed-up "special edition" in the hopes that die-hand fans will buy both editions. Some fans have even gone as far as to suggest a boycott of this version of the films.[47] "I was expecting something like this from George Lucas, but this really is beyond bad taste," wrote one reviewer on Amazon. "W/ Blu-ray technology, they could've managed to fit both versions of the films on [one] disc. I will wait for the special editions. For trying to gouge my wallet, one star is all you get!" Another reviewer writes: "Don't buy. This is an outrage ... [the studio] is tricking you into buying this release and then re-buying [the] extended [version] when it releases." And another: "This packaging attempt is blatant double-dipping and we will not have it!" Warner Bros. has yet to comment on these new developments. |

My favorite movies of all time, by a landslide I'm just praying the audio (music) is breathe taking. I don't own any BD that have that wonderful "BOOMING" audio like a good Star wars, or possibly Pirate of the Caribbean would have. I really want to hear my sound bar squeel and my subwoofer shake!!!
When I first heard of the release being non-EE I was a hater, but I have started to come around. I really wish they would release EE but considering how bad lucas has gutted people in the last 15 years, I imagine every huge franchise will follow his footsteps. Lastly, I REALLY don't see this trilogy being less than $50 the day it comes out like a few are saying. I mean I understand there are trilogies at walmart now decently priced, but LOTR can not be compared to Underworld 1,2, & 3. Oh yeah, speaking of Lucas, have they said ANYTHING about any of the Star Wars Saga coming to BD? ![]() |
