of course I will double dip
and I am surprised to see that so many guys here won't (liars )
you can tell me that PS3 dvd's upgrade is good enough, that the DTS or DDEX audio is good enough... if you are a hd addict and/or a blu-ray fan and you love the film, you just can't ignore this high def picture and sound release. YOU WILL BUY IT

Actually, no I won't buy it, since I have no interest in the theatrical editions of the series. It's a simple as that. I only want the extended editions, so I really have no choice but to wait for them. Thankfully I have the DVD's, and they look decent enough for now.

I read the books and then saw them in the theater. Then I bought the extended editions on DVD. I thought the EE caught much more of the detail & feel of the book. The theatrical versions were good, but now I've been spoiled and won't go back. I'll wait.....

I felt the same way. That's why I'm going to wait as well.

Waiting for the EE here ... don't care even if it means I need to wait two more years. I double-dipped on the DVD's and that's enough douple-dipping for me.

I voted no, but I will probably cave when all the rave reviews come in.

Honestly, I'm just a tiny bit worried about how some parts of LotR will look in HD. A LOT of the special effects don't hold up at all - in fact they look downright terrible, even in SD. I'm afraid to see how they'll translate to 1080p.

I will... happily. I enjoy both versions of the movies, I have both on DVD, and believe it or not, there are times when I prefer each version. Also, I'm a collector and the box art looks pretty wicked for this set... It'll be a keeper for me even after I buy the extended versions

I don't care if I have to wait 10 years, I am not buying the theatrical versions again under any circumstances. The only way I will own the "contractually obligated versions" on Blu-Ray is if they are included with "the version we actually shot but could not release due to contract limitations" -- i.e., the Extended Editions. Viggo Mortensen does not consider the Theatrical versions to be "real" versions of the movies, neither do I.

No.

No one knows when the extended cuts are coming. I would say no later than 2012, assuming that's when the first Hobbit movie is released, but likely sooner.

I'll bet that Warner will wait until sales of the theatricals taper off and then announce a date for the extended editions. If I were a betting man, I'd put money on Christmas 2010 (longshot) or Christmas 2011 (good odds).

I have never seen the EE's, so... I will NOT be double dipping, I will wait until the EE's are released, and buy those. I have not seen the movies since they were in theaters, so... they will be EPIC when I watch the EE's for the first time on Blu, whenever that happens to be, heh

I'll double-dip. I really like the theatrical version and still watch it often so I'm very excited about it's release. Of course, I really like the extended version as well so I'll definitely pick it up whenever it gets released.

And wait until June or July to get a copy of FOTR. Then wait another 2-3 weeks for TTT.

Then wait again for ROTK. If netflix could get me all three in consecutive weeks in April - then I'd do it. But I cannot wait for this release!

So double dip it is.

I REFUSE TO QUADRUPLE DIP ON THESE FILMS!!!

New Line & WB should smarten up with regards to these films in the home video format. I understand why they released them seperately on DVD because the limitations of the format. However, the Blu-ray format clearly offers the option of seemless branching! Most fans of the film (like myself) have already purchased the LOTR trilogy TWICE on DVD!!! They should have just 1 Blu-ray release with both theatrical AND extended versions included.

I've already spent over $200 on LOTR. There is no way in hell I'm going to spend another $250+ on the content.

acutally i am interested to see how fast they can get them. obviously they are a huge hit amongst fans, so will there be tons of copies to rent so they dont have as long to wait and also, many people are going to be buying them so will that cut down on the rentals a little. we will see
