Yup, my dad went through the same thing a couple of years ago... worked at the same place for 25 years, it was a government job, and because of something that went down in the government (not gonna bash heads here cuz that's not what this forum is about) my dad had to reapply for his job... and almost lost it. And because he wasn't "getting fired" or "getting laid off" they said that he just "wasn't hired" then he wasn't even going to get unemployment. But alas, because of some other parties fighting for him, he was not let go. I just think its absolutely shady for companies to make you "reapply" for a job you already have.

Sorry, off my rant... I can't wait until 4/6!!! I'm STOKED

edit: shoulda yoosed speell chick...

I am looking forward to 4/6 as well. I have not watched anything about the trilogy in almost a year and a half (I have been holding out and it was killing me last month when the trilogy was on TNT to just take a peak .) I have never seen the extended versions either and don't plan to until they come out on blu. However, because of this, I will be double dipping....I want the PQ and AQ of the theatrical release now and then I will get to experience the extended release as if they are completely new to me, hopefully in 2012.

I'm a collector... I like both versions, I've been planning on double dipping from the beginning, so I know what I'm doing. And the extended period between the two releases will actually give my wallet a bit of a break, so I'm good with it. The only problem I have is that there are certain scenes that I wanna see more than others to see what they look/sound like in HD, gonna be difficult for me to sit through 9 hours to check em out... but *sigh* I guess the whole movie is good so I'll survive *sigh*

Hey Bob...I read Chapter 3 of The Silmarillion and they introduce so many new names and blood lines of the elves that I need to go back and re-read it. I had the Guide to Middle earth next to me and must have kept pulling it out about once every paragraph in an effort to remember which elves were part of which kindred of the Eldar.

As of right now I still have a job, so I am looking forward to 4/6, as of right now.

Indeed, I wrote them an email detailing how disappointing that is, especially when they allowed it to be sold in stores, and from what I understand those stores will have even less stock if any at all. THEN noted in their emails that it will be limited stock... indeed.

But I sent a really long message to their customer service about this. Perhaps if enough people complained they might do something.

Just about a month to go. Really looking forward to the review of the trilogy. This can be no less than a 5/5 PQ and AQ.

A major source of confusion with the Silmarillion is the names of the Elves of the First Age (e.g. Finwe, Fingon, Fingolfin, Finarfin), as well as the different types (Vanyar, Noldor, Teleri, Moriquendi, Calaquendi, Avari, Umanyar, etc.), especially upon the first reading. A method to avoid confusion with the names is to bookmark and refer to the family trees provided in the appendices. With those provided in the Ted Nasmith illlustrated edition, it is easy to follow the genealogy of the elves from the orignial houses to Elrond, Arwen, Aragorn, etc. Also in the Ted Nasmith edition is a letter from Tolkien that provides a synopsis of the story as well as his motivation for writing it.

Default Lord of the Rings Blu-ray Release

I'm certainly NOT going to feed the coffers of New Line Cinema twice. It's not like they have to sit down for a year or two and compile the extended versions from scratch. They've been in the can for several years already...C'mon, New Line...give us what we want the first time around!

I have the boxed DVD versions of the extended releases and the picture quality from my blu-ray player when they are upconverted to 1080p/24 is very close to blu-ray. I fully intend buy the set in blu-ray when the extended versions are released to get the high end sound tracks, but not before. No double-dipping for me, thank you!!

In fairness to Jackson, it sounds like "from scratch" may be exactly what he intends for the eventual EE blu-ray versions. That could actually be a very good thing for us fans... fixing a few unpolished effects and perhaps a few more enhanced scenes etc.

That sounds awesome, I'd wait for that.
Not that I'd know if there's anything "bad" or unpolished in these films.
But still, there could probably be some improvements quality-wise,
so it would be cool to see some kind of remastered version.
Without ruining it though...

the rationale for the delay with the EEs we've been hearing is something along the lines of "Jackson wants to *revisit* the EEs to bring them to blu" which would strongly imply that they'll be modified in some way, even if only slightly, from the EE DVDs.

Just what kind of modifications......would it be different editing?
