yeah..... I think I'm seeing some excessive DNR there....... I've got some glare on my laptop screen though, but it looks like it's there for sure. (Unless it's a soft-focus shot )

A friend downloaded that 720p rip & I was just asking him on msn about it. I didn't bother as I've preordered on amazon.

He said the pic quality looks decent - sort of "forrest gump" disc levels but it's hard to tell as the rip is only 7gb or so and compressed pretty hard. He said the sound is awesome. I'm not sure what quality soundtrack the rip comes with but probably the lossy dts track. He's pretty particular about sound so I'd say that has a bit of weight.

Everyplace has it for $50 in Canada. Amazon, HMV, Blockbuster... I don't think it is a typo.

I got mine on pre-order.

http://www.amazon.ca/Lord-Rings-Pict...TB90SHFGTM8E9W

I will be double dipping because the price point is just too good.

Yeah i wasn't going to double dip (we're ALL obviously gonna get the EEs! :P) but at this price it's almost a no brainer!

Actually I was thinking about this long and hard. I really wanted the EE as that is what I have on DVD however the other thing I realized is that the EE are very long and my wife wont watch them due to their extended length.

The Theatrical are great masterpieces and although enthusiasts disagree they are the more solid "movie watching" experience due to the flow and shorter length.

I prefer the TR for Two Towers although I will miss a few wonderful scenes in ROTK EE.

As I haven't seen the TR since the ROTK in theaters it will be interesting for me to see if my thoughts are correct.

I can't wait!

After completing my order, I tried to use the code again as a new user and also on a different WB Shop account but it didn't work. If anyone else wants to try it, here you go:

Sorry to annoy all of you with stronger principles, but if it's true that we have to wait until 2012 for the EEs, I have no regrets.
I went to WB shop and went through the order process. I didn't see any place to put in this discount code.

You can do it when looking at your cart or on the second to last step before finalizing the purchase.

I'd do the WB shop thing but for 2 reasons -
Amazon is the only online shop I use
I already pre-ordered it at Best Buy and don't consider that money spent on the steelbook so I don't want it to go to waste.

Wb shop is a rip anyway. Amazon always comes through and you can go wrong with Amazon prime.

Whoa, interesting....still, that price...why would anyone want to pay an extra $30-$40 just to get it like a week and a half early?

They probably took the camera negatives and scanned them. No further "restoration" would be required of a relatively new movie. Not sure what they do for FX shots though.

that and the 1080p rips available for dl looks kind of weak... bland even only a 9000kb bit rate though
and i hope its not accurate to the source

i was going to break my oath about not buying until extended but if it looks like these rips i think i can wait

The 1080p rips are from old HDTV broadcasts, and Peter Jackson confirmed that he approved a new transfer for the blu-ray. Unless some industrious pirates already got their hands on the discs.

I see pirates DID get their rotten hands on it. Don't draw conclusions from shady bootleg copies, and don't underestimate the piracy scene's pathetic need for "cred" by putting out bogus releases upscaled from 720p ones (which come out first so the group can pat themselves on the back about getting it out before anyone else).
