We all have different visions. This moment, I recall was in the book with a different location in the city(Also, didn't Wk have a horse in the book?)
Well, he couldn't have killed Gandlaf cause it wasnt in the book anyways. It was just added by Peter for extra tension. Actually, if I remember right I do think the WK's "flying mount" was mentioned in ROTK. We'd prolly need a fresh reader to answer that one a 100% though.

ANYWAYS about the blu-ray release...I wonder how the hi-res will affect all of their big-atures?

I know that. It's character motives that are getting me.

I don't think the High-rez will affect the Bigatures in a negative way. The bts docs show plenty of detail put into them, like down to a clothes line that's never properly seen in ROTK.

I saw some rereleased editions of the books in a bookstore today, and the publishers went with the original "abandoned" titles. FOTR being "The Shadow Returns"(something like that) and ROTK, "The War of the Ring. Didn't pause to see what the Two Towers was called. All part of the 50th anniversary.

I can't wait to see a close up on Gimli's face with all that prosthetic work...an iffy?

Oh, and the Two Towers abandoned name was, The Treason of Isengard. You were VeRy close to the Fellowship's name, The Return of the Shadow.

The LOTR trilogy is all about quality so I don't think you have to worry about seeing issues with the bigatures or with Gimli's makeup, etc. Every so often at my theatre we have a trilogy festival running 35mm prints. At 40' wide and an estimated 4k(+) resolution (the estimated rez of 35mm film) everything looks awesome. These are near-perfect movies IMHO only marred by a few glaring continuity errors.

I just wonder if in the Blu-Ray release we'll be able to see the dust trail and the reflections of the sun off the car in the background near the beginning of Fellowship. Jackson denies it's there but it's visible in the 35mm print.

Yes, you are very right about the quality of Weta's special effects. That would be cool to watch the movie like that, and it's good to know it looks great at that resolution! Yeah the continuity errors on IMDB.com for all three movies are ridiculous lol. Didn't they cut the car out at some point tho?

They did. They mentioned it on one of the many commentaries spanning the EE DVD.

Greetings all. Just joined. Anyways...

Im actually hoping they release the theatrical films first and honestly, Im OK with them not releasing the EEs. IMO, once you've seen the EE versions a few times and you see the extra footage, there isnt much incentive to keep watching those versions. They are a little dragged out and only a few of the extra scenes really matter. When I show people these films for the first time it always goes over better when I play the theatrical ones.

Dont get me wrong - I like the EE versions. I just dont feel that I need them om blu-ray as long as I get the theatrical ones! And, the SD EE versions are terrific disc sets with awesome extras and great packaging.

So, gimme the LOTR theatrical versions and Im good! I probably wont double dip either.

You are definetely in minority here. I say bring on both versions on Blu. But the EE is the ones everybody wants. Me wants it!

That's what I thought because I don't remember seeing it watching either versions of the film on dvd.

As being someone who is ReallY into the history and massive-ness of Middle Earth, I want to get in as much screen time as possible lol. So, buying and watching the thearticals on Blu would drive me nuts without all the extra scenes. BUT, I will get them on Netflix just to please my eyes and that will be enough to hold me over.

I sure hope they give this amazing trilogy the love it deserves and give us a flawless transfer.

I caught some of LOTR on HD TBS over the weekend. I believe it was telecast in 1080i and even though it was pan & scan'd, the PQ was definitely superior to the DVDs. Hopefully Warner does a nice job on the BD. You just never know with Warner sometimes though. I hope Peter Jackson is very involved in these and makes them release a top notch product.

Warner knows the magnitude, importance, and fan base of these movies. They won't screw up. I imagine the transfer will be as impressive as that achieved for the 2001 release last year.

I hate how some channels crop movies in scope.

There's always noise and artifacts in HD broadcasts, but LOTR looks a LOT better on HD TNT, or TBS than the DVDs.

I would totally like to check that out. Finally with BluRay we can really see all the detail and time Weta put into this film.

They had better release the extended cuts of LOTR. If not, then I'm sticking with the extended cut DVD's that I own. It would be stupid to release the theatrical ones.

I totally agree with this sonnyworld85. I could be wrong. Nobody hasn't mentioned this yet. Correct me if I'm wrong fans. That's the content I'm looking for. The extended cut. That's the reason why I'm looking forward to the Blu-Ray edition. I won't be purchasing this unless there is extended content. I want all the bells and whisles for this bad baby. Peace....

No EV equals no purchase for me. I'll hold out for the extended version.

After plodding through the extended cut of the first movie and half of the second, (I watch about 40 minutes at a time, here and there when I'm bored), I've come to the conclusion that although the EE's are undeniably better and more detailed, I will absolutely be buying the theatrical versions if they are released first. These movies are just way too visually stunning to pass up on blu-ray in any form.
