I prefer the theatrical release of RotK.. the editing is kind of sloppy in some of the extended edition's scenes (Gandalf & Witch King confrontation comes to mind). Fellowship & Two Towers EE's are nothing but an improvement though. Either edition of the film for BR would be fine by me.

Same here. EE are a vast improvement and feel much more like like the book as far as story, character development, and pacing. I'll netflix them to check out the PQ and such but it is unforgivable to make us wait. This is what seamless branching was made for!

DoubleDose..it may seem unforgivable (now) to make us wait, but do remember the hoops & hurdles we had to endure for the Theatrical vs EE versions. Apparently, good things come to those who wait, but Kat (wifey) & I will gladly welcome either version which is initially released. As a form of LOTR Blu foreplay, she's watchin' EE Two Towers right now. I must admit that it looks mighty fine upconverted, can only imagine the Blu version.......................!

Well, the Hobbit movie is not due out until 2011, according to www.theonering.net which means no EE versions on Blu until then so I'm afraid this will be a double dip for me now. Hell, I'm going to spend the money on something anyway so why not.

I am not sure if this has been posted before but Digital Bits says that
Warner will deliver The Lord of the Rings films on Blu-ray Disc, some time late next year, but very likely be the original theatrical versions. According to their sources, Peter Jackson wants to save the Extended Editions for an elaborate Blu-ray box set release closer to the debut of the new Hobbit films in theatres. |

And yes, the killing of the fell beast and the fall of the Witch King are about 99.99% in line with the book. |

With so many Blu's coming out I might buy 3 other new releases and just netflix the trilogy rather than double dippin. |

Personally I like the EE DVD boxsets so much, I would rather have WB bring out a set of 'replacement BD's'. So just six disks in a cheap wrapper, with EXACTLY the same movie content as the EE DVD's only in glorious Blu-Ray and all the sound formats known to civilized man... They wouldn't have to bother with the Special Features DVD's. I'm happy with those as they are. I am not keen on yet another EE version. You know:
"Get your new Extended editions NOW!!! With twice-the-size all new-and-improved Gollum!!! We give you our "satisfaction or money-gone" garantuee!!! (I've been 'Lucassed' one too many times). ![]() Last edited by aar002; 12-05-2008 at 09:32 AM. |
