Too easy to be cynical in topics such as this, it's just so temptimg to throw wood in the burning fire. I have no problem of how they treat it, and I have not seen the Lord of the rings movies in years, and I though of rewatching them on blu ray would reframe my opinion. I'm just thinking of how well they already did with classic films on Blu ray (especially The Seventh Seal), and how they tempered with fans by ignoring people who have more dedication (some more ignorant may call obsession) to their theater, so allow the people to make it easier to ingest on smaller televsion sets, and make those of us who spent much money and time on their theaters to choke on. I can't do anything about it though.
P.S. they really need to bring Lawrence of Arabia to blu ray. (Edit: That doesn't mean I won't watch the Lord of The Rings on Blu ray, rent them at least. I want to see how well the cinematography is given in high definition.) Last edited by Trogdor2010; 03-26-2010 at 08:12 PM. |

Measured criticism has its place though, and hopefully inspires studios to strive for the utmost quality. |

Im guessing thats where the problem lies. Most people have looked at the screenshot on their laptop/PC, and have passed judgment. It looked completely different when I viewed it on my TV.

There is no conspiracy. It looks "different" on your display because of your display, not because of the caps. How it appears on your TV will be different how it appears on my TV, it will be different to how it appears on his TV, their TV's, etc. Displays differ. I'm looking forward with this being the parroted theme for the next 10 pages. How it looks in the caps is how it is on the disc, period. How it looks on your TV is only how it looks on your TV. Screenshots have always been useful for me in, I know what to expect from a Blu-ray disc. When I'm interested in buying a movie I can come here, look at the screenshot and get a fairly accurate idea of how the movie will look. Here are two examples:
Twister (Extremely soft through out. Fine detail is almost none existent) https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/scree...=88&position=8 Man On Fire (Strongly detailed and sharp) https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/scree...14&position=11 Now when I bought these movies and viewed them, I pretty much got what showed up on the screenshots. Twister never revealed fine detail and sadly it never became sharper. Man On Fire had a great amount of detail, just like the screenshots showed. I'm greatful for the screenshots because they do help you understand the image quality of the movie. I also can notice the lack of detail on Blu-ray discs on smaller screens. At times I'll watch a Blu-ray movie on a 21.5 1080p monitor and it's easy to see the difference between a movie like Twister and Man On Fire. Thankfully, I never cared about the Lord Of The Rings Movie so it doesn't affect me, but it has brought forward a very interesting discussion. |

![]() And in regards to the "It doesn't look that way on my T.V." comments. I would highly recommend a professional calibration for your set as it will greatly enhance the viewing experience of the Blu-rays out there that in fact do have reference quality video transfers. |
