I watched 4 more scenes this morning before work. The wife was not impressed that I "cheated" however I couldn't wait.

FotR - I watched the fellowship ceremony and it was alright. I would say it looks better than the dvd but didn't have the pop I had seen in the RotK scene.

TTT - Helms Deep was AWESOME. PQ/AQ was great. It did not dissapoint. I watched the attack of Tree Beard and it was ok. The AQ was great although the PQ in this scene didn't make me go 'wow'.

RotK - I watched 'The end of all things' and it was spectacular.

Next up is watching all 3 in a row on Sunday!

Enjoy the purchase all.

...when exactly did I claim that DNR was not an issue with this release? They are claiming to know exactly which masters are being used simply by comparing screenshots.

In general, the screenshot scientists cannot be trusted. In general, they claim that issues are always caused by DNR and/or EE. No matter how complex the issues is, they claim DNR and/or EE. They have no knowledge or experience beyond that. My comments were general comments about their behavior surrounding numerous releases. Asking one of them to describe technical flaws in a release and the reasons for them is like asking prehistoric man to describe the inter-workings of a computer.

They claimed DNR an issue with Baraka and deemed it a disaster when the issues actually came from something else entirely. When someone directly involved in the production of the title attempted to explain this to them....what happened? He was run off. The people there who rave about Baraka are not part of the screenshot scientist group.

Issues regarding this release and any other release should be discussed. Get your information where you wish. I'd recommend you get if from an expert such as Robert Harris, Penton, etc. You know...folks who actually know what they are talking about.

Again, I don't really care what they think about Baraka (I've seen it, I own it, I think it looks spectacular.. )They may very well have been full of it with whatever claims they were making about that particular presentation. All I know is their screenshots for this release are completely accurate, I don't know anything about what they said about so-and-so other movie, and really I don't care all that much.

I am specifically talking about this release, and more specifically about Fellowship (my favorite of the 3.) The PQ is deeply flawed, as far as Blu Rays go (and especially as far as "big" name titles go) it is just mediocre looking. Comparing it to the very, very old HDTV presentation makes that abundantly clear. That's the only thing that really interests me, that's the thing I'm hoping they fix. Like I said, if you don't want to trust anything that originates in AVS then read this forum's review. Go and read Highdefdigest's review. The flaws in Fellowship are blatant and are definitely not related to another forum's bizarre conspiracy to denegrate this release, like I said, those claims are just a red herring.

I suspect he was contractually obligated to do so.

Once again, I never claimed this release is without flaws. It is flawed. I have seen with my own eyes. I have had my copy for a few days now. No static screenshots necessary. Meanwhile, the scientists on that forum claim to know which masters were used based on screenshots.

[QUOTE=Stinky-Dinkins;3102344]The people who posted those screens, Xylon and Eric.exe, have always used the same frame types when comparing and will give you the frame info when asked, they never compare I to B.

Baraka is a Tier 0 title on that forum. Baraka looks stunning.

This kind of thing is just a poorly disguised diversion of the topic at hand, this release. I am referring to this title in particular.

Fellowship has serious video quality flaws, it just isn't a good looking release. Those flaws exist regardless of what forum they happened to be first discussed on.

Yeah, at 40 inches you'd have to sit damn close to pick up on the major visual flaws, not much more than 4 feet.

I have a 40 inch Sony XBR and can't wait to see them. I just wish they'd get the price to that magic $50 mark.

+1. He has claimed to be a fan himself, why would he not actually prefer the version that he went so out of the way to make, when he obviously didn't need to? If he would have said the EE's were his favorites, there would be a mob with torches and pitchforks marching to WB and New Line upon release of the TE's.

If you have a 40 inch set and sit at what the average person would consider "normal" seating distance I'm sure they'll look great. Like I said, that's the advantage or smaller display size. If you're sitting more than a few feet back visual flaws are extraordinarily hard to pick up on.

That's fine, but this is a thread for LotR, not a thread to talk about what three or four other people are talking about somewhere else.

Someone mentioned AVS. I provided the facts. You chose to defend them.

If you want solid information, talk to an expert involved in the industry. If you want assumptions, talk to a screenshot scientist.

You people give yourself so little credit
If a blu-ray is either identical or worse to an old mpeg2 broadcast, it's safe to *assume* that no work was done to bring it to blu-ray standards.
If Baraka, a fairly recent film shot entirely on 65mm negative, doesn't have the same level of detail as many of the best 35mm films and has annoying glowing edges, it's safe to *assume* that whatever the process was, it was somehow deficient.

I was reading the description on it here and it says 9 discs (3 BD, 6 DVD)

Does this mean they will be BD/DVD combo(s) ?

well i'm finished with the fellowship... brilliant.. if you thnk this disk has serious flaws.. i dunno.. there's an awful lot worse out there!

its by far the very best i've seen and heard the film.. and id disagree that you cant see flaws on a 40" screen.. its all relative... if i had a projector i'd be sitting further back...

No, it means that for each movie, there is a BD (the feature film), a DVD (the supplements), and a Digital Copy (also on a DVD).

I don't know how big everyone's hdtv's are but 40 inch is the sweet spot for an average size living room when it comes to viewing distance/picture quality.
