I actually want to give George enough time to realize that he IS being a douche and do a proper restoration of the original Original Trilogy for the BD.

Agreed. The changes to the theatricals are almost as incompatible with the trilogy as the "prequels". Han definitely shoots first and Jabba is also not a "person" nor does Han treat him like one.

GDT said that hopefully pretty soon they will reveal their choices for Bilbo. I am still hoping James McAvoy will accept the part.
I was hoping Ian Holmes would keep the role of Bilbo for the sake of continuity.. but James McAvoy would also be a wonderful choice. He has the proper build for a hobbit and would look great as Bilbo.

No, the DVD's are two disc. But they're in DTS 6.1, I think. I know it's 6.1.

I kind of like the extended editions being on two disks, take a break, very reminiscent of classic epics. Unfortunately, I do not think the release this year will contain the extended editions, after seeing the additional material, it will be hard for me to double dip until the extended editions come out on blu ray.

The extended editions are defo the way to go here. I was going to say I have no intention of buying these, but with a potential 2-3 year wait for the extended.... its a looooooooong wait is that to see them in Blu.

[QUOTE=JamesKurtovich;1472559]I agree. I've probably seen each movie a hundred times over and every time is like the first time.

And I thought I was an extremist! I have seen each movie in the theatre 10 times and perhaps another 10 to 20 on DVD and in HD on TNT. However, I am more interested in the books; I have read the trilogy (and the Hobbit) every year for the last 25 years. Needless to say, I am eagerly awaiting both the theatrical and extended edition BD's.

If I had a choice Id rather take the digi pack in the extended format over the normal pack theatrical release.

I have the extended 2-disc versions also, and though I'm normally opposed to splitting movies, it actually works out pretty well when we watch them. After the first disc is over (after 2 hours), you can get up and stretch or stop for the night and continue the next day, which is what we normally do. I makes for a nice LOTR week.

Because the Extended DVDs are some of the best that standard definition has to offer, I'll wait until the eventual mega LOTR boxset is released.

Nothing yet. Hopefully PJ and GDT got their hands full with the pre-production of The Hobbit.

I still am hoping for a new piece of news... but the wait is half the fun.

According to the Digital Bits, it's true.

I hope by then Warner will be smart enough to provide the titles in highest bit rate video and full HD audio with no extra DNR. Hopefully they'll also be the extended editions.

I don't mind if the appendices aren't included as I'll keep my DVD sets, but if they are converted to Hi-def I'm good with that too

While the graphic indicates coming soon, TheDigitalBits.com indicates that the titles are in fact coming in 2009.

The release of the LOTR trilogy is either gonan be done perfectly or bare bones. I'm pretty confident the pq and aq will be great but feature wise i can definitly see them releasing the theatre versions first. I already own all 3 of those so I'll be one of the many waiting.

Kong's from a different studio, so what they're doing for that movie isn't necessarily true for LOTR.

Personally, here's how I'd do it:

Simultaneous release of:

1) Barebones theatrical version.

2) Extend Edition, with the extras from the DVD extended versions

3) Super-deluxe collector's edition, with all content from 1 & 2, plus exclusive extras (but, please god, no statues!).
