I'm not bashing anyone in this thread, so please don't take it that way...

.. but I don't generally trust screen caps unless I personally know the person who made them. There are too many ways to take screen caps that are not of the same quality as what you'd see watching the movie yourself... and on top of that lots of people with agendas who will intentionally or unintentionally modify their caps to show what they want to show.

Also, lots of people will take still-frames and say how horrible something looks... but nobody watches a movie frame by frame. IF you did, you could find nastiness on individual film frames too.

And also if your using a computer the screen shot can look different until you watch it on the tv. Like I am legend on this website I saw a screenshot and it looked bright and I bought the disc and it looked darker and more clear.

That's why I view screencaps on a professionally calibrated HDTV.

I think my tv is calibrated not to sure.

And what should the color be? But it looks super dark to me sometimes.

There are certain things only a calibrator could do but if you haven't changed your settings at all there are definitely things you need to tweak (I'm surprised it looks too dark to you, most of them come torched.) Search AVS for your specific TV model and take not of some of the setting suggestions in that set's thread, or you could just use one of the many discs out there (Avia, DVE, etc.)

Haha you would know if it was. It doesn't come calibrated so unless you did it then it's not.

Do you just have your computer hooked up to your TV? I've been wanting to try doing this, but haven't bothered to order a long enough monitor cable.

The only people that would know are people with your specific set, settings are specific to a given set.

And if you're used to always watching torched sets (as they usually come from the store) then the "proper" settings will look much less bright and blown out, yes.... you should get used to it and a week or so (and then flipping back to torch mode will look nuts.)

Like I said, read over your set's thread in AVS to make sure some of your settings aren't drastically off. THose are just a baseline though, that's why you should use a disc like DVE to do final tweaks... things specific to your environment (typical room lighting when watching tv, etc) will influence what certain things should be set to.

And stay out of the service menu, just use the basic built in menus for now.

S-D gives the best advice...just go to your tv's thread and i'm sure they'll have settings posted there. Follow them and you'll be happy.

One reason it was an issue with HD DVD.
Why would it be bandwidth intensive? If you look at the Amazon.com page for the LOTR release that used seamless branching to have both versions of each movie, it sounded like it was a very efficient use of disc space.

I have my Linux system hooked up to my 46" LCD and my Windows laptop hooked up to my 52" LCD, both DVI to HDMI.

For Blu-ray, scenes actually overlap in the bitstream. So you have 2 video streams, and whatever auido streams running at the same time.
