Kind of a subtle way to end the presence of a major character.

Don't the Hobbits pwn the crap out of him in the Shire, oh wait. Thanks for taking the scouring of the Shire out of the last film, Jackson. Between that and no fight between Witchking and Mithrandir, there's little doubt in my mind RoTK is the most over-rated of the 3 films.

If I remember correctly don't titles sometimes get released early on holiday weekends? It seems like titles were found early at this time last year as well and one of the other holidays as well.

It's a catalog release and not all electronics employees know enough to know whether or not certain movies should already be out for purchase.

Ah that explains why there was no magic involved when the fully armed and furious Hobbits forced Grima out. I thought we would get that scene in RoTK when they spared his life in Rohan but I was wrong. I would totally get the extendeds if that were included.

Blockbuster by me had 3 in stock, but would not sell to me until the 6th. I don't get what the big deal is about holding them until the 6th.

Some studios punish retailers for selling movies before their intended street date, it's probably a fine of some sort.

It was not the best news for me as i had a player, and quite a few movies !!!
Your conspiracy-theory version of the format war is only mildly amusing.

Not a theory,as this was reported at the time in several a/v magazines, and to be fair it did not bother me that much as i bought a Blu-ray player right after this.

The accusation that everybody had to be bribed into supporting it, is a conspiracy theory.

No i never said every studio had to be bribed,as Blu-ray already had it's own exclusive studios loyal to it's format,as did Hd-dvd,but "Warner" were key as they are one of the biggest studios out there, and at the time making for both formats,so their decision to side with Blu-ray ended the format war.

So i will agree with you Sony in no way helped their decision, they did it because Blu-ray was a supirior format,Because if you were a movie studio making both Blu-ray's and Hd-dvd's getting in effect the best of both worlds, you are bound to think it would make great sense to drop one of them and take a cut in your profits, with no deal from Sony at all.

Yea makes perfect sense to me !!!

pq is GOOD!!!!! whether french release is different from US but I thought PQ is a huge upgrade from DVD and still better than when I saw it on tvhd last christmas
before watching blu-ray I have put the dvd in my ps3... blu ray is just day and night. I am so happy with it I could just forget this is "just" the thearical release

Warner is a publicly held company. Any "bribe" would show up on their balance sheets, like it did Paramount and DreamWorks when they took the $250 million to go HD DVD exclusive.

It never did.

There's your *proof* that Warner didn't take a bribe in going BD exclusive. Fact is they knew it would end the format war (which it did) and bring out the thousands who were sitting on the fence waiting to see which way the format war would shake out.

It's also a fact HD DVD never got much past the 100k mark, and those were devices sold. How many HD DVD owners bought not only a HD-1 player, but a 360 add-on and then upgraded their players to the cheaper/faster HD-2 & 3 players.

BTW: the ignorant magazines you cite called Blu-ray a "Sony format", yet Panasonic has more IP (intellectual property aka patents) in the format, and the core Blu-ray Disc Association was Panasonic, Sony, Pioneer, and Philips.

Here endeth the lesson. Spread the word and stop the ignorance.

Thank you very much, Peter.

I'd mistakenly assumed that the Red Ants had gone away, at least from this forum. Shows what I know. Apparently they are about as persistent as a herpes infection.

Peter.

I am so glad the format war is long over. What a stupid, stupid waste of time, $$$, and it could have killed HD disks altogether. Isn't it nice to just sit down and watch blu-rays (and listen) in awesome HD?

I certainly remember those days... I'm glad the best format won! WB certainly helped end that nonsense. And man, times were terrible on that other forum. It seemed like anyone who way pro-blu was spurned, etc on that other forum. They even kicked out Penton-man and chased away all Blu insiders.

It's great to have one format to rule them all, and in the blu-ness bind them!
