Unless the studio release it right, I will pass on this. Already have the 4 disc extended trilogy with all the goodies. Pretty sure the AQ and PQ will be awesome, but that alone won't be enough to sway me unless they exceed the dvd version in EVERY WAY, meaning more special features or deleted scenes...etc.

I remember reading on the web that Peter Jackson still have NOT included ALL the extra content and deleted scene even for the extended version. That is why I was hoping he would include whatever he miss on the dvd EE version to the blu ray.

Yeah I mentioned that already, he said there was still more features he didn't get on the EE's. The bottom line is...lets pray for 5/5 AQ lossless audio and a 5/5 PQ.

I think he was talking about scenes. A deleted scenes section would be most welcome. And, inevitably, there will be reference quality transfers, so I'm not worried on that front.

Because there was NO deleted scenes for the DVD version and that goes for both for the TE and EE |

There were a couple deleted storyboard animatics on the EE's(oddly, for scenes that were already in the process of shooting) and tons of joking about adding a lot of scenes in the "25th anniversary edition".

Saprano, you are right! New Line would make sure this movie looked top notch with AVC MPEG-4 and 7.1 DTS-HD MA. Warner will give us probably VC-1 and DTHD 16-bit.

I'm not worrying about the PQ, MPEG-4 is predominant nowadays. Even so, VC-1 looks great if utilized correctly. I am unsure whether Warner will go for 5.1 or 7.1, though looking at the DTS ES 6.1 on the extended DVDs, I'm guessing (hoping) they'll go for 7.1 DTS HD-MA.

I think we have a little glimmer of hope for the eventual (when??) release of The Lord of the Rings. Peter Jackson's King Kong (2005) just got outstanding praise for its PQ and AQ. I'm hoping that means he has really got his hand in the BD quality of his movies, which will mean good things for Lord of the Rings.
The only possible hinderence to this is that King Kong is by Universal and Lord of the Rings obviously is not. I'm not sure right now about Universal's general reputation for their BDs since I don't as yet own any of theirs. Anyhow, here's hoping... And I know this has already come up, but here we are still talking about the Extended Edition vs. the Theatrical Cut, etc, so I'll say it anyways in case someone here hasn't read through the previous pages: the King Kong release has the shorter and longer versions available for choosing by the viewer. Enjoy. Last edited by mthopper; 01-17-2009 at 03:00 PM. |

You know now that you mention it, that's my concern too!! Of course if the theatrical versions are released, they would only be 5.1!! It wasn't till the extended editions came about that New Line upped it to 6.1. I'd still love a 6.1/7.1 mix on even the theatricals (though I have no plans to purchase anything less than the extended editions). Now i'm not sure the bit depth of the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, i'm assuming it to be 24. However it will be really disappointing if Warners down-rezzes the track to 16bit. For some reason, i'm not worried about them messing up the video. I have no problems with VC1 and i'm sure they'll give them the appropriate bitrate. |
