That is what most people think.............I personally think it will get released before then, but that is probably just wishful thinking on my part

I would not say that. Some people prefer the TEs to the EEs and dont plan on buying the EEs at all. Chances are there will not be another TE release for a LONG time and they may just use these same transfers anyway. Some people want to own both versions as well.

ugghhhh, i just want to be able to watch the EE straight through without switching the disc. And of course we cannot forget about the PQ/AQ.

I think part of it has to do with which version you saw first. For example, I originally wanted nothing to do with these movies (I thought they would be boring and stupid), but my uncle talked me into watching them at his house (he only had the extended edtions). Since these were the only versions I saw of Fellowship and Two Towers, the theatricals would feel more like edited-for-TV versions.
I first saw Star Wars when they did the 'first' special editions in the 90s, so I prefer those versions (although I always skip the dance sequence at Jabba's palace in Return of the Jedi). However, I didn't care for many of the new changes they made when they released the films on DVD (I hate that they changed Bobba Fett's voice), but I can live with them.

i'll guess from what i'm reading people expect that the EE will have better PQ & AQ than the TE. has there been an instance where the exact same transferes were used (additional footage on the EE of course) and if so, did people cry foul?
i'm trying to understand what the deal is between the two and is it potentially worth it. i will be buying it tomorrow, and can someone tell how much longer the EE is over the TE and how much more content there that might make it vital to the story.

* The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, 12 November 2002. Containing 30 minutes more footage, in a green sleeve. It contains an Alan Lee painting of the Fellowship entering Moria, and the Moria Gate on the back of the sleeve. An Argonath styled bookend was issued within a Collector's Edition.
* The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, 18 November 2003. It contains 44 minutes more footage. A Rohirrim sun symbol decorates the back of its red sleeve and a Lee painting of Gandalf the White's entrance. The Collector's Edition contained a Sméagol statue, with a crueler-looking statue of his Gollum persona available for order during a limited time.
* The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 14 December 2004. It has 52 minutes more footage, and a blue sleeve with the White Tree of Gondor. The Lee painting is of the Grey Havens. The Collector's Edition included a model of Minas Tirith, with Minas Morgul available for order during a limited time.

I'm still not convinced I will buy the TE's after seeing the review on this site for the PQ (especially for Fellowship). May just stick to my DVD TEs time being until the dust settles. Then again having HD Audio would be nice.

It will be interesting to see over the next few days what people think of this boxset, when they get to see it.

As i said i was worried until i watched "Fellowship" but it seemed o.k. to me.

I agree, and not just in this forum but HDD, hometheaterforum, AVS, etc......opinions are going to be all over the map I am sure.

I bet the audio will get very consistent praise though

thanks for the info. i will probably still pick it up first because i have $65 in BB reward zone bucks so i really won't be losing anything and i would love to hear the HD audio as it got a perfect 5 in the ratings. i'm not that hard on the video, i don't think it's going to be terrible (of course, i could be wrong) just not as top notch as some one it to be. for some it will look great. i saw them in the theater and like them. the only EE i have is the return of the king. i think i'll be fine with the TE. thanks for your opinions on this matter.

Just noticed Amazon matched Target & BB @ $59.99. After applying my $12.50 gc, I'm out the door $47.40 for these 3 movies. I'll take it :]

...of course, I'm watching 'only' on a 40" Samsung and not a projector or anything, so my opinion will probably be written off by some

High Def Digest kinda agrees with our pro review but it still says it's a "flawed must own" and goes further to state that they feel it will be a "long time coming" before the extended versions get released and i tend to agree. give this a read and bring your thoughts about it back here!

What did you say "Diesel" your watching on a 40 inch t.v,i hope your lighting is controlled, and you are sitting the correct distance away, also i would prefer it if you were not munching on any snacks or candy as this may take your eye of the screen, and you may miss some of that Dnr.

Hope you enjoy them.
