I won’t be missing anything b/c I actually prefer the TE’s. but to each his own.

But right now – I can’t tell you when and if the Expanded Editions will hit on Blu. I’ve made some inquiries to see if I can get you a decent guestimate… I wrote Peter about this and the response I got basically said that the NEW LINE DVD team that he had a fabulous relationship is no longer the team handling the title. Instead TIME WARNER’s huge team is and he is not included in any of the decision making processes with the title. And if that scares the shit out of you, it scares the shit out of me. WARNERS – you had better get your shit together and get REAL FRIENDLY with the fans. You’re going to be counting on them very soon – and this release is no way to kick start that.

I prefer the extended cuts, but enjoy watching the theatrical cuts only because they're more practical to watch with children. If you can have a child sit through 4 hours of RoTK, I'd like to see it.

On an unrelated note, I just picked my copy up from Best Buy, and it looks great! I absolutely cannot wait for tonight. New episode of Lost and one of the most anticipated Blu-ray releases of all time!

Netflix rentals of all 3 have arrived. I'll start with FOTR tonight. My focus will be more in the sound since this NOT an EXCELLENT video transfer of a catalog film (See Blu-Ray.com's review of 2002's Minority Report)

How do you know if you haven't seen it yet? The films look great.

Can we put all this viewing distance stuff in a separate thread? It has nothing to do with LOTR.

It has its own thread, its just that the naysayers are attempting to further derail this thread now that the general consensus has confirmed that this release is actually not the mess that they were claiming it was (based on a bunch of photographs). The idea of attempting to convince a complete stranger that they are literally watching their television wrongly, simply because they actually enjoyed the experience of watching this release is staggering.

Lets face it kids, you were wrong about this one. Now please stop patronising those of us that weren't, as we've had to put up with this thinly veiled, nerdier than thou attitude for a fortnight now and its really quite annoying.

I am mainly talking about FOTR. There is huge debate on the quality of the video transfer.. where NO ONE has said it is an excellent video transfer. Minority Report is from 2002 and looks like it is a STELLAR five star transfer. That is what I meant.

I am still excited to watch the film because I am not that shallow just to judge on video alone.

Just finished The Two Towers.

I thought the large majority of the movie looked great
[Show spoiler]No white/purple lines ftw!

There was one part with the strange white speckling
Don't know what the hell was up with that.
Also a few other minor problems here and there.

Overall, 4.5/5.
I was very very satisfied with the PQ. The good far, far outweighed the minor nitpicks.

AQ...again awesome.
Though I have noticed that I have to turn the volume up a little higher than I do for most of my movies with DTS (just like the Walmart version of Revenge of the Fallen). Its not a problem though, because I press the Volume Up button two more times and it is fantastic sounding; just a random observation.

That's because it isn't

But it is pretty good looking for the majority of the film.

Right. No one says it looks top shelf, but it seems the transfer wasn't botched, even though there is still confusion as to what was actually used for the master.

I've seen them and FOTR is far from great. It has it's moments
were it looks fantastic and the very next scene can look mediocre.

It was too inconsistent.

Now, TT and ROTK look very good with ROTK being the best
of the bunch.

The audio rocks on all three.

Great, I had a feeling you would like the Two Towers.

To me, the jump in pq between FOTR and Two Towers was
huge.

Did you notice that too?

How can you even say that when there is debate even in this very forum? Look at Petmic10s post above mine for just one example of this, and he rated FotR a 3/5............is he wrong? Throw in all the reviews from very well respected reviewers who I trust much more than anyone on here (no offense) and I dont think anyone was wrong. Many people feel this transfer is VERY inconsistent, how are they wrong? You are entitled to your opinion, but just because some truly feel this is a disappointing transfer does not make them "wrong"

Yeah, I don't want to start an argument again but I think we all can agree that FOTR video transfer IS NOT 5 star. That being said, I don't really care. I am excited to see it because I know it will be better than the DVD video wise and the audio will ROCK. Plus, I haven't seen FOTR for probably 5+ years..

Yawn. Why not put this mass of time you've wasted into something thats actually y'know, productive? Why waste so much time moaning?

The overall step up in quality was definitely a big one.

A big part of that was because Two Towers was very much more consistent.

It looked great...for more than one sequence at a time and rarely looked mediocre.

Where Fellowship could switch at any moment. Not to say it was bad (as I gave it a 3.75, rounded to 4/5), it was just... unpredictable.

Just finished FOTR and the reviewer is a little harsh on the PQ, yes its a little grainy at times, but this film looks way better than Gladiator, they're some very clean scenes that are blu ray worthy, but not demo worthy. The movie itself is 5.0 all day, but i think people are just mad that these aren't the EE's so they just bash the ratings, This is still a MUST OWN EE's or Not.
