And as I've learned in this thread, it's not the size that matters; it's what your viewing angle is.

A person with a 20" can have just as enjoyable experience as a person with a 100", if you're sitting at the right place.
Well size or beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I guess that makes sense. I wonder if anyone here's TV looks bigger without the lights on?

I wouldn't say that. I actually own a 20" and close to a 100" (94) and I can tell you the 94 is MUCH, MUCH more enjoyable compared to the 20" even when both are viewed at the same 1.8 distance which is where I am at with the 94. Not trying to argue, just saying size does make a difference as far as enjoyment factor IMO from my experience. Its not even close.

Exactly!

A guy with a 100" might think my TV is puny. I'm perfectly happy with it and, frankly, there's no spot in my house for a bigger one right now.

Once I get rid of all my rugrats' toys, THEN we'll have room.

SO, is that the size of your TV; I mean 20"? According to accepted wisdom here, you must be sitting 1 yard from your TV!! And how does the LOTR Blu look on such a small TV?

Of course its not the definitive version, I don't recall the part where I said it was. It is fine tho, and great for the most part.

And I'd rather you didn't send me snide private messages too, its kind of creepy.

I was supposed to wait for the EE release, but i bought it, i just couldnt resist !!! Went to futureshop after university going back to home, just to take a look at the steelbook, and I TRYED to leave FS without buying it, but i wasnt able !!! I had to take it home with me

So far i've watched FOTR, and even though there's DNR, it's still a very good upgrade compared to my EE DVDs. I would give it a 3/5. I'm glad i bought it and I can't wait to watch TTT and ROTK since the PQ is supposedly better than FORT.

No mine's not 20". It's 10" and LOTR looks awesome from 37' away.

Why are you getting personal?
And this is what my pm read.
Title: "Just making sure my post hasn't got lost."

Of course, if you don't want to answer it, I'll respect that.
"

You're seriosly just trolling now, I don't know how you identified my PM to you as "snide" and "creepy".

And you still didn't give a clear answer, which further suggests you as a troll.

Oh man, drinking turpentine and pissing on a brush fire is more fun than watching that movie.

I'm so bummed I bought it. Worst blind buy in my relatively small collection.

Ok, enough of this, time for dinner and the rest of FOTR.

I may stay up late tonight to watch RotK instead of waiting until tomorrow

Movies are designed and filmed to be watched with an approximate 30 degree viewing angle. The idea behind this is that the movie image should just start to fill your peripheral vision, but not necessarily make you have to constantly turn your head to follow the action.

Having an image that fills your field of vision is one of the reasons why movies are "movies" and not "TV". Your brain actually processes the visual information differently when an image fills this larger area on your retina and it causes a much more profound emotional response. Without necessarily realizing why, this is the reason people often say "oh, you need to see that movie in the theater, not just rent it or watch it at home".

If you want to get that 30 degree viewing angle, you need to sit about 1.5 times away from your 16x9 display as your screen is wide.
Not everybody has the same width of peripheral vision field. How large or deep-set your eyes are, the shape of your eysockets, and other things can effect that. There is no generic "viewing angle" that applies to everybody, so I think OVN's statement that "what looks best to you" is still the better rule-of-thumb. Myself, I have an unusually wide field of peripheral vision, and it's asymmetrical: I can practically see things that are behind me on the left side, without moving my eyes from a staight-ahead focus, but nothing like that on the right. Some people have a rather narrow field of vision, even tunnel vision. Any optometrist will tell you that all people are different, and that normal can fall anywhere in a pretty wide range.

It is true that the 16x9 ratio was designed to engage more of the brain by fitting the shape of the most typical frontal viewing capability.
