The rants stopped awhile ago. Fortunately, now it's mostly people who actually HAVE these and are WATCHING/have WATCHED them that are discussing their plusses and minuses. And multiplication tables.

So, I suspect those with TV's won't notice this defect.
Many TVs have a 1:1 pixel mapping mode, so those with that will notice it.

I was the first one to bring it up and I was watching on a tv

They run the entire height of the screen.

Mike
I don't think my TV has an overscan option and I don't see any lines.

Over scan is usually default as far as I know.

Do you see "black bars" on 1.85 movies? If not, you have over scan.

i know ill never preorder anything again from amazon if they dont make it right

that's kinda ridiculous on AMazon's part-- the set is advertised at $59.99 all week at Target (and Best Buy as well from what's been posted)
seems like they would lose a lot of orders for a $4 difference!

It's funny you mention this as I have never seen the extended

No biggie, I just saw them last week for the first time myself.

Most people outside of internet forums probably haven't either

Well, there ya go
You have over scan, which means you lose a bit of picture on everything you watch.

You should check to see if your TV has a firmware update that enables 1:1 pixel mapping.

That's how I got it on mine. It originally didn't have that mode and all I had to do was update it and now I do

I agree. There is a lot of that on Amazon as well as in the thread.

A lot of people seem to be under the impression, that the movie should look good with every viewer. Given the fact that everyone has different setups and adjustments, such an expectation is impossible.

The other aspect is that a lot of people seem to expect the movie to have the same kind of picture clarity etc. as movies x,y, or z. In my opinion, that is another faulty expectation.

I am not suggesting the release is problem free. That would be naive or biased of me to say such. I just haven't seen any real issues yet.

I am pleased thus far with what I have seen and heard.

Fellowship... Not that much better than the upconverted DVD. Minimal improvement.
Haven't compared The Two Towers yet.

If I wasn't such a massive fan of these films, I would probably regret this purchase. I bought these mainly because I couldn't not have them.
agreed, ive seen TT and it looks great. Im done with this pointless debate on my way to buy a MAC

I'm an Amazon prime member and I ordered from Best Buy because of the price difference.

What model? Is it a 1080p set?

If it is, it probably has some kind Dot x Dot or Full pixel mode
to avoid overscan.

Nothing wrong with Vizio.

Take your specific model, search AVS by thread title for it, find the official thread then search that thread for "overscan."

Should be easy enough to find how to turn off by enabling 1:1 if possible.
