That doesn't change certain facts about its transfer though. That's where I think people aren't understanding one another here. One side is pointing out the DNR and the like that does exist, the other side is saying "It looks great!"
Neither side is “lying.” Such things exist in the transfer, for one group of people they didn't detract from the overall viewing experience.

Personally I've never not watched a BD based on what someone else has claimed. The only bearing those claims have is whether or not I purchase the movie right out, rent it, or then rent it then purchase it.

For example, I had Patton preordered. Once I saw the glaring DNR applied I changed it to a rental. Once I watched it I went "eeesh" and had no interest in buying it. I bought 2 Blade Runner limited edition briefcases. I watched it, thought it was spectacular. Later I saw a thread on AVS pointing out the very slight DNR applied, people were carrying on as if it were the end of the world and that the transfer was completely "botched" because of it. I watched it again - it was just as spectacular to my eyes. Me seeing the specific instances they were talking about changed my experience not at all. That slight amount did not bother me in the slightest, to be honest I don’t think it would’ve made a perceptible difference regardless of what display you used and what distance you sat back from it. I was still blown away by the job Warner did with it.

Favre actually bought this you know. He thought it was a terrible transfer. Then he said he loved it.

After that he decided it was terrible again.

Just a few seconds ago though he said it was one of the best ever.
i have no issue with sight dnr.the question is why on blu-ray is dnr needed at all.

if its grain, people are just going to have to get use to it. somebody in the know needs to ask someone they know in a studio why dnr is used.nobody has yet given an answer. the issue with dnr is even a little bit takes away from detail.

i ,for one would like to see all studios stop useing it.most important if the studio can't do justice to a blu-ray movie, don't do anything until they can.

lotr is another title they could have waited on. i think to were part of the problem.we get on these forums and demend star wars, indiana jones etc.the studios relize there money sitting there tobe made so they put it on blu-ray ,not caring what it looks like.

i guess what bothers me the most is peter jackson had a lot to do with this project and mucked it up to. i can only guess what happen here but lotr should been given top treatment. i don't think the ee will be any better. how do explain the pain and money put into ''gone with the wind'' and then a muck up job on lotr. warners just sucks

+100, this is the difference between followers and leaders. Leaders are rare and very limited because they don't always go with the common ideal or vote.

well, that's the strange thing, I think, it wasn't rushed at all. it's 4 years into the format They even pushed it back from the original date. When they delay something so long, a reasonable person would assume they're doing something more than putting the old HDTV transfer on a disc

Your post doesn't make any sense, the majority here are going to buy it.

Just finished watching the whole trilogy... Wow. The AQ is amazing on all films and the PQ is really good on all 3, but it is true that the PQ on FOTR isn't as good as the others. Now all we have to do is wait for the EE...

People ask me how I could fall asleep 4 times during one of my favourite films of all-time. That's how, I saw RoTK for the first time, at an 11:00 showing, didn't get home till about 4 AM.

I didn't get to see any of them in the theater

I didn't see any of them until a couple years ago actually, but I've really come to love them quite a bit.

Two Towers would be in my top 20 movies if I ever sat down to make a list. Possibly pretty darn close to the top 10 if not in it.

Grand Bob just posted an excellent perspective, just like Frodo when he put on the ring even though he wasn't supposed to, I'll most likely buy them.

Sounds great! Like Carly Simon sang, "these are the good old days." I'm going to watch one per day. You must savor each one as a fine wine.

Frodo was destined to put on the Ring, its dark power and ability to pull the wearer towards Mordor was part of his Quest to destroy it.

I honestly don't know how the third one did as well as it did in the box office, takes dedicated, hard-core fans to pull of something like that.

Did I remember a scene wrong?
Gandalf told Frodo not to put the ring on, but later he did and in doing so, Sauron found his location?

Anyways, just curious.

He didn't want Frodo to fall into darkness and/or be killed by the Nazgul. However, I think it would nearly be impossible to possess the One Ring for any period of time and not give into temptation to put it on your finger.

Nice, I guess that's why I'm probably going to buy the set.

It's a single box here btw and costs 89 dollars

No problem, it just didn't make sense without perspective.

Christ, how did you miss that? Any of them?

I think I saw each one at least 3 times in the theater.

Makes no sense to me that I did that with Fellowship almost a decade ago. Friggin' nuts. Seems like yesterday.

My brother always talks about seeing the first two Star Wars movies several times theatrically, I think I feel that same way about the LotR trilogy. I remember going to see the first one thinking "this is going to suck ass," everything about worshipping the books as a kid still fresh on my mind, and being blown away by it. I remember thinking Peter Jackson, the friggin' Dead Alive dude (believe it or not that's how he was known back then, he was an obscure B-Movie guy) can't possibly get these right. I knew right from the opening scene that I was wrong, wicked wrong. I kept going over and over again.... I love these movies.
