Now Danielle i have to ask some serious questions regarding your review of the Fellowship of the ring,it will only take a few minutes of your time.

1)How far from your screen are you sitting?

2)Were your curtains/blinds open or shut?,if open how much?
For above question please tick the correct option below.

A)Curtains/blinds only slightly open.
B)Curtains blinds all the way open showing a blatant disregard of their effect.

3)Did you at any point take your eyes away from the screen,at any time during the movie,if the answer to this question is yes please let me know the approx times, and for how long?

4)Listed below are the possible distractions one may encounter while watching a three hour movie, please tick which best applies to yourself.

A)Telephone or doorbell ringing, please be specific.

B)Eating popcorn or other movie type snacks,if eating a hot dog a list of the condiments used may also be useful.

C)Dog/cat or any other type of pet walking in front of the viewing area, please disregard if you have a snake as this may go unoticed. Also it would help me to know that if your pet was walking in your viewing area was he or she.

A)Just walking back and forth?
B)Walking back and forth and making noises, and generally trying to put you off?

D)Any breaks ie toilet, please no specifics here please, after all three hours is a long time!!?

Only joking Danielle,i hope you enjoy the rest of the movies.

Most books that are translated to the screen do lose something,as what works well in print may not work as well in a movie.

The extra special features however are awsome on the extended editions, and the main reason i bought them on Dvd,so i guess i will pick these up when thet are eventually released on Blu-ray.
Great post!!

Remember in the book, where Frodo finally gets the note from Gandalf right after he meets Strider?

I gave the ad to the cashier & she put on her glasses trying to find the ad's date. I showed her the page that said "New Releases available on April 6th".

She saw "The Lord of the Rings Original Animated Classic" on Blu Ray for $19.99 & was about to ring it up as such, but I pointed to the $59.99 LOTR Blu Ray (I know, I am an honest man).
Wow, I never thought of that. I wonder how many people took advantage of clueless clerks?

Can a movies soundtrack really harm a sub? I hear people talking about killing their subs with certain movies that are on the verge of being released. For example a few people said it when talking about War of the Worlds. Or is everyone just being lighthearted about it?

same here. Anybody doubting the transfer should rent it and then give opinions. Not everybody has the same set of eyes. I, for one, enjoyed all three yesterday. Movies are and will always be my favorite trilogy.

I only had a chance to sample a few scenes from Fellowship and Two Towers, but the former is clearly softer-looking compared to the latter. No complaints about the DTS HD-MA tracks though. They sound fantastic.

Overall, it was a mixed bag. I had a hard time finding sharp detailed shots.

Those shots do look fantastic. But i looked up your Gladiator screenshots and you gave it the same score as FOTR. So what does that mean

As regarding Blade runner my point was not to compare it to the Lord of the rings, but to show even expert reviewers take the source into consideration when reviewing as 5/5 for picture seems high when you consider the Dark night also scored 5/5.

When for instance reviewers rate the picture quality on a movie like Bankok dangerous, they take into account the directors intentions ie a very grainy presentation as this is very easy to spot, using subtle filters and slightly softer focus in shots is not as easy to spot and has come across in this case i feel as a poor transfer.
Elfindale? Do you mean Rivendell?

It is a really long time to sit there but I watched all 3 in a day several times when they first came out and then when I'd visit my family for Christmas, we'd always watch all 3 back to back. For a while, it was a new tradition but we haven't done that the last couple of years.

I had hoped to make it through all 3 last night but I got such a late start that I had to stop about half-way through The Two Towers. I'll definitely watch the rest of it tonight as well as ROTK.

My bone of contention with Jackson isn't in what he left out, but in what he changed. In those cases, the book storyline WOULD have worked better in the movies.

Has anybody had the time to take in the extras on the blurays yet? Any opinions? Frodo had an easier time bringing the one ring to mt doom than Im having trying to resist buying this bluray!!! I was determined not to but this forum is changing my mind, the reviews from all that have seen the blurays are generally good (IMO). Jst finished reading the books a few weeks ago, highly recommend them to all
